The ANA Standards of Clinical Nursing Practice are exemplified within the Position Description.
The NCI student, under the direction of a Registered Nurse mentor, is responsible for utilizing the
Nursing Process to provide nursing care for the patient. He/she assumes responsibility and accountability
for his/her individual actions and outcomes of patient care delivered by him/her. Will perform the
essential functions listed below in collaboration with and under the direction of a nurse mentor.

Assessment: Collects patient health data.
Diagnosis: Analyzes the assessment data in determining nursing diagnoses/problem focus.
Outcome Identification: Identifies expected outcomes/goals individualized to the patient.
Planning: Develops a plan of care that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes.

Implementation: Implements the interventions identified in the plan of care.
Evaluation: Evaluates the patient's progress toward attainment of the outcomes.
Quality of Care: Systemically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice.
Performance Appraisal: Evaluates his/her own nursing practice in relation to professional practice standards and relevant statutes and regulations.
Education: Acquires and maintains current knowledge in nursing practice.
Collegiality: Contributes to the professional development of peers, colleagues and others.
Ethics: Decisions and actions on behalf of clients are determined in an ethical manner.
Collaboration: Collaborates with the patient, significant others and health care providers in providing patient care.
Research: Utilizes research findings in practice if appropriate.

• Performs all necessary and requested patient care procedures, including keeping rooms clean and neat, monitoring vital signs, blood glucose monitoring/checks, and other fundamental care actions.
• Ambulating patients, assisting with toileting, hygiene, and other ADLs.

• Respond to 911 calls for emergency medical assistance, such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) or bandaging a wound
• Assess a patient's condition and determine a course of treatment
• Provide first-aid treatment or life support care to sick or injured patients using basic life support training
• Maintain cleanliness of ambulance as well as restock supplies after runs

• Play the organ and piano music for scheduled services
