I would receive pallets of engine parts and I would inspect for defaults on them. Could be debris, chipped/missed paint, no part number/wrong part number, the part came with a hole in an area that shouldn’t be there or there wasn’t one made at all. Rust, cleaning off rp, scratches on a part. With work instructions, after finding what the problem of that certain part was, would clean it, rework it as in making a hole or expanding it wider, mark it in certain ways to know it’s been looked at and worked on by an inspector in the company I worked for. The designated area for the company I worked for was an area inside Caterpillar of Seguin. The parts are inspected for the assembly lines. We did all the defaults that way when it got to them they could keep their constant work flow for the line to keep running. There was also parts that needed to be repacked. For example, the pallet was dropped off by forklift driver they said it’s hot, meaning the line is running low and needs this part as soon as possible. It would be delivered in the area in a cardboard box, it needed too be packed into a 42, or a 48 big plastic foldable container. Required a lot of labor work and parts that come for repacking were the heavier parts to do. At a safe but fast paced would pack them in the proper way as shown on work instructions. All parts that were repacked or inspected/worked on also needed our company label on them along with us okaying the Caterpillar label when done with the part. That was to let the forklift driver know okay the part is ready and when picking up seeing the company label would let them know it’s ready for the line. When parts that needed to be inspected and had a different sort besides what the work instructions had for you to do, there was another label you would put on that pallet, put the caterpillar label on a hold and store in a designated area we had in that work area for a manager to look at and go over. Putting that label on a hold would let the forklift driver or their bosses know if looking for that part that something more to that part needs to be looked at. Keep up to status, communication in that way with anyone wondering about that part. Used a lot of chemicals when dealing with inspections, drills, tools. Always when working make sure had a safe, clean working area. I learned how to use manual lifting jacks for the pallets, also the standing/walking forklift for also moving or storing pallets. I used that one as high as 3 shelves up for storing or getting pallets down. Lots of reading to understand the job but once it was figured out you learned how to do it right always but move faster the next time you get that part. Logged any part that was inspected, worked on, or put on a hold. Constantly took courses when needed to be took. Show that we are up to date with all company policies, safety procedures, or information on parts that we needed to see the changes we needed to know.
Cashier: Rang up store items, sold alcohol, tobacco, (took courses online again to get my license to sell because license is only valid for 2 years) propane. This store is a truck stop, we had a separate register for when truckers came in to use their company cards for filling up, or needing their receipts for them to take back to their company after they used their personal card for fill up. Ensure store, restrooms stayed clean, smelled fresh. Constantly restocking the coolers and shelves because the store is a 24 hour store. Fresh coffee always, coffee area always stocked up. Such as creamers, sugars, straws, lids and cups. Make sure the fountain sodas were filled, the back of the fountain machine where the each soda is hold into is a 50 pound box that is called a bib. I would check on the box levels to know what’s full and what will be soon out. On the customers end lids are full, cups are full and straws. No trash on the floor in front of the area or soda all over the counters from a constant area of filling up drinks. When the truck drivers would come in to deliver, take their delivery order and let them know they can go ahead to drop off, once they brought everything into the store, go over the order to make sure everything ordered is there before signing to let them leave.
Food service: inside the Circle K there is a food area to buy hot foods. I learned how to prepare foods, how to store foods, how to prep the hot table for serving/making tacos on the go as customers asked. How to make fresh chicken, fried foods for the hot area that could be in there up to 4 hours if not served. Learned how to clean out old oil to ensure we always had nice clean oil when it was time to be changed. Keeping a clean, sanitized area before, during and after serving. Proper way to clean my dishes and how to store them. For me if I had breakfast sandwiches as told how we are to make them I was given the okay from my manager that I could make a fresh one if they for example did not want egg or something else to their liking. I made labels that would show what was what, what was in it along with the time it was put out to what time it would be time to throw out. I kept fresh kolaches because that store was a truck stop and that was a customer favorite, along with the hot dog area we had. I had my, “regulars” as we called it. Meaning they would come every day same time, majority of the time buy the same thing and that ensured me that my customer service along with food service was great. They would tell me how great the food was from the previous day or just how nice of experience they had while I rang them up. That was always great and drove me to continue to do so. With the food service I also took courses online, to get licensed to sell. My food handlers.
Many different lines/areas. Majority I was at my designated line. There was 6 different spots on one line, we would alternate spots after each break to assemble a different part of the line. Could be placing down the right panels with matching one to combine them. Could be helping with the robot and the manual part would be wrapping a hose up into a basket with the nozzle out then send it into the robot for it to make its form. Could be running the empty carts down the end of the line to reload the line up with new carts for more work/keep the work filled for consistent work flow. When basket would come out the other end it would be hot, wore gloves. Made sure to wear proper work clothing to ensure I would be safe when working in a fast pace with fragile, or hot parts. When my designated line would be down, I would helped on other lines with other car parts or I would help out shipping and receiving. In shipping and receiving would be a area for just adding labels, an area for filling the boxes and sealing them, packing them on a cart, or moving them out for more space for the next carts to get filled, all at a first paced.
Rang the customers store items up along with/ also could be lottery, alcohol and tobacco, (I had took online courses to get my license to sell) propane. Changed the signs outside when gas prices changed. Ensure always had a clean store, restrooms. Learned all the cleaning products and procedures we had in our storage closet. Changed inside and outside trash. Especially the ones closest to the door to make sure no odors or bees would be a factor when coming in and out the store. Filled up clean water for windshield cleaning. Changed bibs when a fountain soda was out. Made fresh coffee always. Stocked up the coolers. Refilled the shelves. Swept and mopped. Most importantly any customer that came in the store when I worked I had them leave with a smile/ a fast experience, nice experience when I can notice they were trying to just be in and out. Give them that convenience.
CSA: Bagger/ bagged groceries to help the cashier/ for customer to give them a faster experience in checkout. Helped customers find something they were looking for in store they weren’t able to find. Helped customers for a carry out/load their car. Brought all carts in/ ensure there is always baskets available for customers.
