• Advised radiologist or referring physician results of examination and provide preliminary diagnostic evaluation.
• Performed computerized axial tomographic scanning of heads and/or bodies; performing imaging of the head, trunk and extremities, and performing patient positioning for diagnostic radiologic procedures. Make necessary changes to radiographic equipment to setting up wedges or changing traverse length adjusters. Review radiographs for optimum quality.
• Received patients, explain methods of procedure, position patients for examinations, and make exposures to produce diagnostic images.
• Check all X-ray images taken during normal duty hours and ensure all images are diagnostically interpretable. Evaluate diagnostic images for identified standards, repeat the images, and give instruction in making the required changes. Analyze and/or interpret diagnostic images, and assisting in training diagnostic procedures.
• Ensured all digital images are transmitted immediately to the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS).
• Assisted the Quality Assurance Technologist with monitoring repeat rates, technique charts and radiation protection devices.
• Assisting and developing training programs for new technologist(s), physician(s), resident(s), and general clinical staff in the Imaging Sections.
• Provide Diagnostic Radiologic support / coverage to the Diagnostic Department for routine x-ray exams including fluoroscopic, portable exams, and the Operation Room.
• Provide coverage to the Computed Tomography (CT) section and is an expert in performing all CT.
• Independently reviews each requisition to assure that the patient history and area of complaint is consistent with the exam requested.
• Perform all CT examinations in multiple planes, including axial, coronal, and sagittal and dynamic blood flow studies of the head and/or body with the ability to reformat CT images as directed by the Radiologist. Works independently in performing CT examinations, determines technical requirements of the CT examinations.
• Interview the patient to obtain additional clinical information, and if needed, contacts the clinician and/or clinic that made the request for clarification and may recommend a more appropriate exam to order. Determines what view and technique for maximum diagnostic effectiveness. If the diagnostic goal is not met initially, consult with the attending Radiologist to determine if additional views are required or alter the technique to achieve the goal before the patient leaves the department.
• Uses a wide variety of computerized equipment such as Computed Radiography (CR), Direct Digital Radiography (DR), Digital Fluoroscopy, Computed Acquisition and port-processing workstations, PACS viewing stations, CHCS desk top viewing software, and hospital computer systems such as T-System.
• Fully competent in the use of all computerized equipment in the Diagnostic section as well as the Operating Room. Continuously assesses the image quality and equipment performance for optimum performance and image quality. Determines if the image quality problem can be corrected independently or if the problem needed to be reported to the Supervisor, Biomedical Engineering and/or the appropriate vendor for repair.
• Experience in working with plain radiographic film, computed radiography, digital radiography and PACS systems.
