The Deputy Director of Safety &
Technology assists the Director in advising NATCA leadership on matters related to aviation
safety and technology. The Deputy Director works with the Director and the NATCA President
to establish NATCA safety and technology policies.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
The principal duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the
following:
1. Assists the Director of Safety & Technology in the management of departmental staff;
assists in leading the development of departmental staff members through proactive
coaching, mentoring, professional development, and feedback. Reviews and approves staff travel, leave requests, timesheets, and expense
vouchers.
2. Assists the Director in creating the departmental budget and operates within the approved
departmental budget.
3. Assists in the delegation of projects to departmental staff members.
4. Works with the Director to ensure that NATCA’s policy on safety and technology issues
are appropriately communicated to the aviation industry and the government when
attending industry and/or government forums.
5. Works with the Director to provide candidate recommendations for appointment to
safety- and technology-related work groups to the President and Executive Vice
President.
6. Works with the Director in coordinating with the Labor Relations Department staff on a
regular basis to ensure that all current and proposed safety and technology projects are
handled in an appropriate manner.
7. Assists the Director in providing departmental updates to the President and Executive
Vice President and the rest of the National Executive Board, as necessary.
8. Assists the Director in working with the NATCA National Safety Committee
Chairperson to coordinate activities between the Committee and the Safety &
Technology Department.
9. Assists the Director in coordinating the efforts of NATCA Safety & Technology with over 100
representatives and national liaisons.
Worked on the Advancement Performance-Based Navigation (PBN), across the National Airspace System (NAS).
Assisted in the deployment of Optimized Profile Descents (OPD).
Worked with the Time Based Flow Management National OPS Team.
Worked with Service Centers and Air Traffic Control Facilities.
Worked with Airline Industry in the deployment of Metroplex.
