Summary

I am currently looking for a position in industry to apply prior research experience and contribute more directly to the betterment of society. My professional experience in chemistry has varied between basic and applied research and education. The PhD I earned in 2009 focused on the how carbohydrates interact with proteins and what that may mean for initial cellular communications. As a postdoc I developed virus and bacteria detection strategies as well as designing vaccines for drug resistant strains of tuberculosis. An interest in materials surface science led to research on how bacteria interact with various metal and glass substrates. Teaching as a professor provided experience in chemistry education and chemical ecology. An industry position would allow integration of these interests in applied work that addresses significant scientific problems of our time.
