Main duties consist of trail maintenance and monitoring/maintenance of project areas. Projects include construction of native plant communities and restoration of degraded habitat, survey of and cataloging species of fungus found within wildlife sanctuary for biodiversity atlas, general monitoring of endangered species found within sanctuary which include California Gnatcatcher, Crotch’s Bumble Bee, and Least Bells Vireo.
8 month research internship focused on investigating the influences of space use in Deer Mice (Peromyscus maniculatus). Included 1 week of field work and data collection with the National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON) in the Shaver Lake area of the Sierra National Forest. During that time I assisted NEON field technicians with aquatic plant surveys in remote streams, small mammal trapping in designated study areas, and plant surveys within quadrats focusing on density and diversity of plant cover. Outside of the field work potion I was part of a team of students preparing our report and compiling data in preparation for a presentation at a research symposium.
Personal recreation finds me in the field and the very least twice a week, time permitting. Personal favorites include field herpetology, special interest in montane habitats and species of reptiles and amphibians. I have a special interest in rare and hard to find species of plants and animals, I enjoy the challenge. Bird watching and identification with special interest in Owls and endangered species such as the California Gnatcatcher. Fly fishing and conservation of native trout watersheds within Southern California and Utah. Mountaineering in difficult terrain and weather, as well as backcountry camping and backpacking.
