- Place the patient on a cardiac monitor
- Start an IV line and draw labs (If a trauma situation, we may have to take the blood work up to the lab physically instead of sending it on a tube station.)
- Blood runner (When a code/trauma situation is happening, we have to run up to the lab and physically get the blood and platelets by hand.)
- Set up trauma bays with all the equipment, such as airway tools, EKG leads, SPO2 probes, oral and rectal temps/probes, all BP cuff sizes, IV supplies, making sure the travel monitor is fully charged, etc.
- Responsible for checking the LUCAS machine once a shift, and ensuring it is fully charged and is functional before use
- Responsible for taking down and picking up equipment to the sterile processing department for cleaning when physicians have intubated a patient, inserted a central line, chest tube, thoracotomy tray, etc.
- Covering the unit clerk (secretary) when they're on break, which consists of answering phone calls, scanning documents in, paging out for level 1 or level 2 traumas, overhead paging codes, or staff assist
