My achievements started as a CERTIFIED SURGICAL TECHNOLOGIST. Soon after as I was working 40 hours plus, I was taking more basics at a nearby college. Here I gained my ASSOCIATES in surgical technology. At this time I joined the Neuro team. Thereafter, 2018, I received my certified surgical first assistant license.
My current job at Valley Baptist Medical Center begins at 3 to 11pm. Vbmc is considered a trauma level 2. Here we have 18 O.R. and we perform all specialties. My role as a csfa is pretty much the same as I float from room to room. I also help in the holding and schedule patients in CERNER for the next working day. On our down time, I help prepare the O.R. for the surgery cases scheduled the next day. As a csfa, I usually help neuro surgeons place external ventricular drains by bedside. I also am utilized in E.R. as I help with sewing up patients.
My work experience as a CSFA has been a challenging role everyday. Here at VBMC, we are trained and crosstrained to different specialties. My role as a CSFA has broken over the years as they introduce new technology and different medical equipment. I was a CST for the first part of 25 years. Here I scrubbed into general, CV, ENT, EYE, Urology and Robotic women cases. Thereafter I left for 3 years and now I work swings and we take care of all the remaining cases and take care of all the trauma that comes up to surgery. On our down time I help schedule patients in CERNER and we pull the cases for the next day.
Here at DHR hospital, it is a trauma level 1 hospital. I worked swing shift and we took care of all the emergencies and trauma that would end up in surgery. My role here at DHR ended up with a huge responsibility as a CSFA. Again we would help the department clean up and get all our cases ready for the next day. Here at DHR, I was mainly scrubbing into neuro and a lot of general cases. I soon left and ended back home at Valley baptist medical hospital.
