Operator/Material Handler

  • Unload units from production line and store in designated place in warehouse

  • Lockout all tracks before beginning of shift and depending on time of day make sure all lighting is working before inspecting and made sure that no cars were uncoupled with cut lever down
  • Converse with State Port Authority to make sure which tracks are to be inspected for that day and then begin inspecting all cars according to FRA and AAR guidelines
  • After inspecting the cars engineer is called to transport all damaged cars to specific location to be fixed
  • Fixing damaged cars include installing new material on to the car with forklift, torches, some welding, and grinding equipment
  • When work is complete then I bill my hours and material used for that day along with inspection sheet and release papers for cars that are complete and ready to go
  • To keep company truck clean and in working order while in use to go other jobs site for overtime or making delivery.

  • Gathering the blueprints from the engineer, finding material for projects to be completed, cutting, burning with oxygen and acetylene gases and also plasma arc cutters, washing, tacking welding with welding rod and also flux core welding, and putting it together material if weight limit is under 200 lbs if not getting overhead crane to assist
  • Work with rigging and portal crane department to hang materials at various heights ranging from ground level to 400 feet
  • Currently working on LHA-7 aircraft carrier and NSC-4 coast guard but also includes building and lifting unit for 26 ddg destroyers
  • While completing theses vigorous tasks making sure that I stay within osha fire laws, and safety equipment law wearing my personal protective equipment which includes wearing safety helmet, ear plugs safety glass, steel toe boots and coveralls
  • Works various shifts also working double shifts, weekends, and overtime if available.
