In 1977 I was appointed a Police Officer, spending time in Patrol, Traffic and Administration. Promoted to the position of Corporal in 1982 I attended Northwestern University’s Traffic Institute for courses in Supervision of Police Personnel, Managing a Training Unit, and the 10 week course of study in The School of Police Staff and Command. I served as a field supervisor in Patrol, Acting Watch Commander, Training Officer and assisted in the initial accreditation of the Department by the Commission on Accreditation of Law Enforcement Agencies, a nationally recognized program. I was assigned as Detective in charge of Investigations, either actively investigating criminal incidents or assigning cases to subordinates. I was assigned as an investigator with a multi agency regional Major Crimes Task Force charged with investigation homicides and non-parental kidnappings for an area encompassing 13 agencies, in addition to my duties at my agency.
