  • Every day functions as a TSO (Transportation Security Officer) entail me going out on the floor (on the south security checkpoint), utilizing best practices, standard operating procedures, and maintaining situational awareness. Assisted travelers with questions regarding airport security regulations and procedures. Conducted pat-downs, metal detector checks, and x-ray scans in a timely manner. Performed security screenings of passengers and their carry-on items to detect prohibited items.
  • At least once a week, the STSO (Supervisor Transportation Security Officers) running the floor would designate me as someone to run the lane for the day for my group, being the OIC (Officer in Charge).
  • Recently becoming an OJT (on-the-job trainer) coach has given me a new avenue to mentoring my peers and help better our floor functions.
  • All, to bring other officers up to the same standards in training, to get them onto their next role as a fully certified TSO.
  • Since I've started with TSA, I have worked in the infield, taking numbers of lanes, TDC's input, line waits, etc., more than 5 times up until this day. Monitored passenger traffic flow at checkpoints to ensure safe and efficient boarding process. Doing infield gives me the opportunities to see the security checkpoint from another perspective. Also, during that time, I get to utilize my knowledge of knowing other languages (fluent in American Sign Language, learning Spanish, and French).
  • Alongside helping people, I am also PSS (passenger support specialist) certified and enjoy being able to go the extra mile to get passengers to where they need help. Assisted passengers with disabilities in walking through screening checkpoints.
  • Now being BD (behavior detection) certified, this brings a new perspective to the checkpoint environment. Considering insider threat, proper procedures of handling situation-based interactions with anyone coming through the airport. Also, maintaining a wider range of situational awareness alongside the proper way of handling structured security situations.
