As Technical Representative @ Trus Joist and previous organizations, managing Engineered Wood Products has provided the opportunity to meet many individuals in the Engineering & Architectural community in Washington State and some in surrounding Idaho and Oregon, having conducted many "Lunch & Learn Seminars" and trade show booths over the years. Typically, the meetings conducted were a success as all recalled went well beyond the typical hourly allotments offering ability to meet the faces of many with whom their questions had been telephonic or email. No recall of any unpleasant experiences and consider them the most rewarding portion of the Technical Representative position.
As obviously reliable professional with extensive experience in the building industry, particular interest in Engineered Wood began with an initial observation of TJI joists in Alaska in 1980 immediately recognizing such a valuable use of natural resources and a truly "sustainable" product then, yet over-used moniker.
Even more so, finding that these products succeeded in providing more than expectation of performance and even came with a warranty for the lifetime of the buildings! This was almost unheard of now as warranties are purchased? From then on, enjoined in promoting Engineered Wood in all positions until finally being employed directly to a coveted Technical Representative for Trus-Joist Corporation, during which time happily meeting, now passed, such successful individuals such as Red Thomas, one the two partners of the creation of Trus-Joist, who shared visions as a dedicated and dependable relationship-builder with moral strengths and super ethic and meeting as if having been long term acquaintances. Also meeting many respectable individuals within the industry, and strived for professional communication skills, building good rapport with customers through positive engagement. As Tech Rep, I provided outstanding product demonstrations as a positive and skilled Engineered Wood ambassador relying on years of experience as well as driven sales through creative marketing and seminar events, communication skills, knowledge of social media and brand influence with potential customers through friendly conversation.
Being well-versed in gathering requirements, defining scope, analyzing specifications and technical drawings with years of experience in the construction engineering industry utilizing personal knowledge, understanding building modification and even industrial facilities. Talent and experience coordinating with contractors, engineers and architects, designing construction drawings with and without different software along with personal experience of empathetic management, has strengthened communication abilities and served as exceptional creativity for solutions and responses or desired input in many cases.
Personally, I have consistently achieved sales volume annually within the top 2 to 5 Technical Sales Representatives for Trus Joist, who then became Weyerhaeuser, and finally RedBuilt since beginning employment.
The first year of employment @ Trus Joist having promoted Open Web Trusses for exposed condition in Maple Valley Library in Maple Valley, WA the project was awarded second place in Wood Architecture Magazine for USA., although Trus Joist was not promoting exposed trusses, at that time, having my "intended" career in Architecture, I had a different vision and considered it a worthwhile aesthetic feature for promotion and specification. One only has to enter many restaurant chains now throughout the US such as Red Robin, Bob's, Appleby's, Taps n Hops, many Starbucks, etc. that were not until then promoted. Was perhaps the award and promotion exposed and proven correct and probably supports a good portion of RedBuilt's National Account Sales income to this day? Shameless self-promotion is my satisfaction.

Obviously, self driven as described and worked remotely for 20 some years, at least, I have always considered the actual face time with the communities that design and/or utilize such a valuable resource as the forest provides the most rewarding and pleasurable experiences of what might have been a mundane work position. Sharing knowledge with engineers who are always eager to learn and architects always looking for new ideas while listening for their needs has seemed fulfilling in reality in so many ways that could otherwise be simply putting covering over a floor or roof. There does seem to always be the new engineer who starts with wood designs eager to get it right and the principals of firms having exercised their natural inclination to excellence who also find a need to know and learn. In bigger picture, these resources reinvented not only sustain building but a source of sustainability for many families in many associated industries who then carry on unaware of the products that they can live safely and often beautifully within. Such is my two cents of appreciation for our shared industry whether we find mutual value or further need of my commitments for this unique resource
