Work History

Applied Epidemilogy Fellow

Cook County Department Of Public Health
08.2022 - Current
  • Collected raw surveillance data from multiple sources for seasonal surveillance of influenza and West Nile Virus. Raw data was then cleaned, analyzed, and formatted into weekly reports to be used by the general public, infection prevention staff, and local health departments.
  • Assessed the value of an automated cluster detection program by creating daily reports of reportable diseases, analyzed and investigated potential disease clusters, and collecting data to formally evaluate the value of the program.
  • Evaluated an automatic faxing intervention designed to improved reportability by healthcare organizations regarding sexually transmitted infection cases in order relieve the workload of investigation staff.
  • Surveyed 19 acute care hospitals in Cook County regarding electronic case reporting implementation in. This was done by designing a survey in REDCap, reaching out to infection prevention and information technology staff at these facilities, facilitating the completion of these surveys, cleaning and analyzing the data in SAS and Excel, and dissemination of the results to external and internal stakeholders.
  • Worked with epidemiologist staff to respond to and contain October 2023 and March 2024 measles exposure situations. This included interviewing those exposed, obtaining vaccination records, and monitoring symptom status for 200+ individuals.
  • Analyzed syndromic surveillance data to determine if the syndrome definitions for influenza, cold-related illness, heat-related illness, opioid overdose, and COVID-19 currently used are effective for measuring the burden of disease of each of these conditions. Effectiveness was determined using a correlation coefficient.

Research Assistant

All Of Us Research Program
12.2021 - 08.2022
  • Surveyed and maintained the health information of 12,000 participants enrolled in the research program.
  • Facilitated survey and survey responses over the phone with participants to gather accurate health information that would then be used in multidisciplinary research.
  • Guided incoming participants through introductory steps as they entered the research program. This included surveys and determining physical health.
  • Maintained health records, survey responses, and participant information across multiple platforms.

Research Analyst

Wisconsin Department Of Health Services
12.2020 - 12.2021
  • Used SAS to update and format data obtained from raw surveillance data on carbon dioxide poisoning, alcohol outlets, immunization records, and heat/heat-related illness in Wisconsin. This data was cleaned and developed for an online portal used by the general public, researchers, and the medical community.
  • Authored data details for heat/heat-related illness and tobacco use using a variety of official resources.
  • Conceptualized and developed a surveillance brief on adult lead poisoning now published on the tracking program’s website and available for use by the public.
