  • A subject matter expert in auditing, researching and resolving both current and historical retirement and other post-employment benefit (OPEB) issues generated from employment history changes
  • Independently research and resolve payroll transactions involving retirement, other post-employment benefits (OPEB), and Social Security and Medicare payments, deductions, and adjustments
  • This requires abstracting and analyzing both employment history and payroll detailed information to determine the correct calculations have been made and uploading files into the mainframe requesting specific files be generated or extracted for overnight processing
  • Currently serve as a customer service liaison to state departments personnel staff by taking incoming calls and emails through the State Controller’s Office customer contact center. Manage approximately 30+ incoming calls and emails per day from HR customers.
  • I handle difficult and sensitive information to provide instructions and guidance to HR personnel staff on matters involving retirement account code information and relative Social Security and Medicare tax information
  • Independently review and analyze all resource materials available for retirement information such as the payroll procedures manual (PPM), the personnel action manual (PAM), and the public employee’s retirement law manual (PERL) to be able to site retirement changes for state departments when auditing employment history
  • Acting Liaison between SCO and the CalPERS service credit buyback program
  • I cross reference the employee’s CalPERS account and the SCO mainframe to verify established deductions and withholding amounts as well as being responsible for manually processing for both deduction and refund requests
  • Verify and establish payroll deduction withholdings for established accounts receivables for retirement.
  • Assist the CalPERS reporting unit workload by independently process senior level enrollment history and payroll transactions within the CalPERS system to update employee’s retirement accounts
  • Responsible for reviewing and reconciling current and historical payroll information to post within the CalPERS system for employee’s who have missing service credits
  • Independently review and process CalPERS payroll reports to both post missing service credits and move service credits to the correct appointment/employer information
  • Independently processed and assigned inbound work from the State Controller’s Office customer contact center to the CalPERS reporting unit in my supervisors’ absence

Accomplishments

  • Identified large scale retirement program issue within the Department of Consumer Affairs for Governor appointed employees which lead to a large scale project to refund employees going back decades.
  • Identified and resolved retirement account issue for the Department of Emergency Services, emergency hires being placed in the wrong retirement program.
