The role consisted of evaluating veterans who would present with a mental health crisis, which included concerns of suicide, homicidal thoughts, or being gravely disabled.
The ER social worker completes an assessment and staff case with the psychiatrist on recommendations for the veteran, which would include admission or connection to outpatient services if the veteran is deemed safe for release.
ER social worker is also completing assessments on weekends and evenings for veterans who were admitted to the acute mental health unit.
ER SW worked closely with first responders to help advise on the needs of at-risk veterans.
