I have live in Corpus Christi, Tx. Since 1988. I was a Division I Athlete for the University of Oklahoma from 1982 to 1986 were I earned a full athletic scholarship in Gymnastics. After completing school and sports I moved to Corpus where I was the Director of the Gymnastics Program at the Corpus Christi Athletic Club from 1988 to 1994. My husband and I decided to open our own Gymnastic Program January of 1994 to current time where we own two gyms. During the past 28 years we have had 3 children and I went back to school were I earn a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Science. I worked for Communities In Schools at Cullen/Hamlin Middle School, Richard King High School and West Oso High School/Middle School Abstinence Program. Truly my greatest pleasure and love was always working with and being involved with the community and with the students and their families.
I moved to Corpus Christi, TX in January, 1988 where I took a job as Technical Director of Gymnastics at Corpus Christi Athletic Club through December, 1993. I was in charge of recreational, tumbling, cheer and boys & girls competitive gymnastic programs. I was also in charge of the annual competition budget for recreational and competition teams. I was Head Women's competitive gymnastic coach from January, 1988 through December, 1993. At which time my husband and decided to venture out in January of 1994 and start Mary Jane's Gymnastic Training Center.
I was an Abstinence Educator for West Oso Jr. High/High School where I provided information to students that would both educate and inform them on making chooses that could affect them for on a day to day basis as well as throughout their lifetime. The program both allow students to think, communicate and process their thoughts through journaling. I was able to create live interactive discussions in groups which remained healthy and private.
We did projects that allowed students to express their feelings through Art and then were allowed to hang it throughout both schools.
I was a Case Manager at Cullen Middle School and Hamlin Middle School. This was a true eye opener of the need and demand of CIS. I divided time between both schools and quickly learn to manager my time appropriately. Both schools had great Principals and Assistant Principals that worked side by side with me and CIS and were absolutely open whenever I ask or requested for speakers or extra groups.
My first job with CIS was Flour Bluff Alternative High School for 1 year. This was truly a great experience in both patience and helping students make better choices. It taught me about small groups and students being able to interact in situations that will prepare them for every day events that occur and that will affect and impact them throughout their lives.
This was the beginning of my life in Corpus Christi, TX. I was blessed to be hired at the Corpus Christi Athletic Club as the Technical Director of Gymnastics which gave me a foundation in both business management, customer service, time management and being a team player. With all of these amazing traits I came away with, the ability to open up and start my own business Mary Jane's Gymnastic Training Center in 1994 to current time.
CIS transfered me to Richard King High School from Cullen/Hamlin Middle School. I was excited being given a chance to work at one school and it was going to be my son's high school. Being familiar with King, 2 of my older children graduated from there, which made it even more exciting. King staff embraced CIS and was always hands on to help before, during and after school. I had before school groups as well as homework hangout groups that gave students a safe environment to do homework, projects and/or just sit quietly. King PTA also partner up with CIS and provided snack allowance that would help students make it through some weekends that may have been a struggle otherwise. Where I have my family, I have always been fortunate enough to have what we need. My love and respect for CIS and what it does for our community is immeasurable.
