Lead and manage a 160-room hotel on the banks of the Milwaukee River also featuring the Anchorage Restaurant and 9,000 sq. ft. of flexible meeting space. The hotel is on the only full-service property in Glendale which is 10 minutes from downtown Milwaukee. The hotel benefits from its proximity to Johnson Controls, Cardinal Stritch University and the Orthopaedic Hospital of Wisconsin. The property preforms well in both its primary and secondary comp set’s and is host to many corporate and social events. During my time here the COVID-19 pandemic began which required me to reduce our workforce overnight and find creative ways to keep the hotel open while running a 3-5% occupancy.

Maintain oversight of Crowne Plaza Milwaukee South a full-service hotel located near the General Mitchell International Airport. Having underperformed since opening in 2009 I was brought on board to change the culture, raise revenue and bring an entrepreneurial approach to the management of the hotel. The hotel features 195 rooms, 24,000 sq. ft. of meeting space among 9 meeting rooms, a Starbucks We Proudly Serve Cafe, Full-Service Restaurant & Bar and a 24h Airport shuttle. Responsibilities included full accounting functions of cash, P&L and on-site accounts payable, overseeing full renovation including project management, overseeing a sales team of 5 people, working with bank on owner distributions, Human Resources, Payroll, Reporting and Budgeting and acting as liaison with IHG and 3rd party Management company. During my time I led a team of 13 salaried managers and 86-line level team members. Additionally, I applied and we were accepted into the Crown Plaza Workspace pilot program and converted the former Club Lounge into two Work-Life guest rooms.

Maintain oversight of Chicago Getaway Hostel and assist the newly created Convexity Hospitality to expand market share. Handle complete P&L and operational responsibility. Prospect and evaluate new opportunities and monitor market performance alongside senior leadership. Involved with management group selection, property layout, operational efficiencies, and candidates interviews for senior roles. During this time, I was able to effectively cut costs and improved revenue by $200k with a result of $100k in additional NOI at the Chicago Getaway Hostel. Implemented and worked with a strategic partner to launch a new website and marketing campaign that incorporated a blog program, social media, new booking engine and a responsive site on all media platforms.

Hired to assist the real estate investment group ($400M portfolio value) turnaround a distressed asset; a former woman’s boarding house built in 1928. During my tenure the property increased its revenues from $1.4M to $2.9M while maintaining a 45-47% margin. Introduced e-commerce to the property by creating relationships with OTA’s, Wholesalers and through institutional student housing partnerships. Revamped and rebranded the property to reach top ranks within the hostel space. Set standards, revenue management practices and a social event schedule targeted at providing excellent customer service. Acquired understanding of construction and historic preservation through property refurbishment and forged long-term relations. During my tenure the hostel achieved the #3, #7 and #9 best “Extra Large” hostel worldwide by Hostelworld.com Retained in a new role post the property’s sale to DRW Holdings/Convexity Hospitality in 2013 while providing assistance to both sides with proper financial reports, contracts and collaboration in the hand off of all functionalities of the property.
Joined as Assistant Front Office Manager of this 398-room hotel with 10,000 sq. ft. of meeting space and was soon promoted to the Executive Committee. Served as the SMERF Sales Manager, and was promoted to Front Office Manager, finally attaining promotion as Rooms Division Manager. Attained success in streamlining departmental activities, including effective management of Front Desk, Reservations, Night Audit, PBX, and Revenue Management. During my tenure our hotel was awarded the Quality Excellence Award by IHG for our outstanding performance.
