Before relocating to southern New Mexico I had spent 19 years successfully working my way up to Lead Bartender at Reno's most renowned (according to Nightclub and Bar magazine) brewpub inside the Eldorado Resort located within Northern Nevada's busiest part of downtown known as 'The Row'. Outside of daily local and tourist rushes, I succeeded during high pressure/high volume events like Hot August Nights, Street Vibrations, and BBQ Brews & Blues which was sponsored by our brewery. Each of these events easily brought additional tens of thousands of people to the downtown area. Along with effectively serving food and beverages to the almost always full 20+ seat bar, not including walk ups, I was responsible for preparing beverages for the 292-person capacity restaurant as well. After the gradual reopening following the Covid-19 shutdown, the company only kept two bartenders (myself and one other) on staff creating 10–12 hour workdays for several months. When regulations began to ease a bit, and management was able to bring back a handful of staff members, they relied on my abilities to succeed in part because I was able to garner a loyal group of regular patrons.
Building on the knowledge learned at Everest I jumped at the opportunity to build a team from the ground up with Cinder. As part of the management team I was responsible for accurate daily safe counts, weekly physical inventory counts, and verifying full compliance with state and local laws. Constantly excelling at all facets of my position yet still always learning as much as I could within the company, earning respect from internal and external customers as well as vendors.
Being a part of the cannabis industry since the beginning of 21+ sales in the state of New Mexico has given me a unique insider view of the business side of the industry, as well as the cannabis culture here in Las Cruces. My duties include the entire process of guiding new and returning patients through the process of purchasing cannabis, including checking in, learning the patients' needs, guiding them to products that suit those needs, and then efficiently checking them out. Being aware of current sales/promotions and having a detailed knowledge of all products and their pricing gives the guest a sense of comfort to bring them back time and again. Other duties include opening/closing procedures, ensuring my cash drawer is counted correctly and has plenty of change to get me through my shift, keeping my area clean, and helping with daily inventory counts.
