Work History

Distribution Technician IV

McCormick & Co Inc
Belcamp, MD
04.2000 - Current

2000-2002

Started as an Order Selector on B shift

Prior to SAP and High Performance jobs were more streamlined. I consistently performed at a high level while in Order Selection. My picking percentage was always near the top.

For my consistent and above standards work, I was given the McCormick Gold Award.

2002-2004

While still on B shift I interviewed and received a Warehouser position.

This job was very important because you were responsible for creating or processing inventory. Whether it was a Shuttle Inbound from our Hunt Valley manufacturers or a P.O. receipt from a third party vendor.

2004-2006

I moved onto an alternate shift (10am-6pm)

On this shift I was responsible for working on our USIG side of the business.

I learned how to batch pick Frito, Kellogg's, and General MIlls orders, just to name a few.

I was also trained on McCormicks loading processes during this period. Eventually becoming the Back Up Dock Coordinator.

2006-2018

I was given the opportunity to be the lead of an alternate shift at McCormicks new facility, BMW.

In the beginning of BMW I was responsible for one temp agency employee and myself. We were tasked with unloading and putting away overflow freight and replenishing the MDC with any materials needed to complete that days work. If we weren't able to complete our daily tasks I would make my own overtime call.

I was shown trust and had proven along the way that I deserved the keys to the BMW facility. I had to make sure the facility was locked down every night.

A few years into my position at BMW, the facility expanded into more than an overflow warehouse. The BMW warehouse was transformed into a distribution center.

Our employee count when from 3-4 employees, to 15-20, with multiple shifts. From the start I was viewed as a go to guy. Putting my fingerprints on everything.

I was whatever the day needed me to be. Order selector, unloader, receiving clerk, dock office coordinator, and even Back Up Crew Leader.

When I would fill in for Crew Leader on a particular day, or week, I was responsible for getting the team organized at our shift start up meeting. I was also required to carry a company cell phone and answer calls dealing with the daily business. I also had to respond to specific emails from customer service with questions about such customers as BJs, Sam's, and Costco.

I would also have to have a presence for the facilities 11:30 daily meeting. Discussing with other Crew Leads and Supervisors BMW safety concerns, manpower, and normal daily activities.

I can't recall the year but somewhere in the first years of BMW I was awarded the McCormick Ruby Award. Once again showing my commitment to McCormick and them to me.

2018-Present

At this time McCormick had grown even larger with the acquisitions of French's and Franks. Which meant another facility would need to be opened and OPW was born.

I was looking for a new challenge, new environment, and found it at OPW.

During the beginning of OPW a team of some veterans and some newer employees were brought together.

Some knew my background and experience and some didn't. I was quickly thought of as a leader and a confidant. Between my knowledge of SAP, work ethic, confidence, and ability to relate to old and new, I was viewed as very important piece to getting OPW up and running.

While at OPW I have been a big part of the Pick, Pack, and Ship processes. Receiving Clerk, Dock Coordinator, and even learned to pick Export to name a few.

SAP is a system that can make the jobs we do simpler but there will always be human error. Human error has created daily, weekly, and monthly tasks that require cycle counting.

Lost pallets are a huge issue in every McCormick facility and ends up costing the company a lot of money.

I was tasked with searching for misscanned, misplaced, or even freight that was considered lost on a daily basis. Me and a few others were able to limit the amount of freight that was deemed "lost" and save McCormick some money.

Currently I have moved back to the loading dock, rotating between our French's side and our American Flavor Solutions side. I am responsible for a daily schedule that requires customer freight to be loaded in a timely manner.
