Solo design engineer for the entirety of system components, including CNC/Milled parts, injection molded metals and plastics, sheet metal, labeling, fluidic component sourcing and product EMI/EMC and Safety certification.

Hands on development with the manufacturing team for feedback and improvement of assembly processes and production floor design. Implementation of Kanban inventory management system. Authoring of technical manuals, assembly documentations, manufacturing quality checklists for a large range of assembled electronic devices and accessories.

Developed a novel RMA system for the return and analysis of faulty and damaged parts. Utilized 80/20 method to limit the number of overall part returns, and limit customer downtime. Communicated with part vendors to investigate faulty parts, including work with outside labs to complete FTIR/uFTIR and MEMS to present tangible root cause failure data and enforce recalls / faulty goods compensation.

Researched and sourced SLA 3D Printing equipment and hazardous liquid compatible resins that reduced prototyping times for machined plastic parts from 4+ weeks to 8 hours. Used to develop new manifolds suitable for production usage at 1/5 the cost the same plastic part.

Lead group projects with multi-disciplinary engineering team. Lead effort to develop line speed monitoring system using existing hardware that brought print location accuracy from 5% down to 0.5%, making our product suitable for use in high demand wire and cable marking industry.

Issuing and managing of Safety Data Sheets for hazardous materials. Design and layout of Hazardous Filling room, including setup of proper grounding and drum handling, lighting and power placement, selection of equipment (capper, sealer, labeling equipment).

"Matt showed exceptionally good project management qualities in the development projects in which we participated, and I was quite happy to work with Matt on every one of these projects.... Woodworking

I have been woodworking for several years. I enjoy to work with my hands, and always am looking to learn a new building technique or find a new tool I can use for projects. I have built a couple of desks, bed frames, shelves, and a bookcase. I am not afraid to work with my hands. My typical method for a woodworking project is to hand draw out the item I would like to build. Then, I begin to dimension the drawing, and work at finding ideal wood widths and lengths to minimize project cost and board wastage. After that stage is complete, I'll write down all the final size cut boards and purchase materials and fasteners. Then comes the building process, where I like to process in stages, where I will handle all the sawing and milling of boards, then process to any custom fasteners. Then I setup and build according to the plans and tackle any obstacles along the way. I find that this approach utilizes my artistic and structured skills, and helps keep the two from conflicting. This doesn't always get to be the case when developing manufactured goods, you have to keep innovating. But with a one off woodworking project, it's nice to have a plan and be able to see if through to completion from the original prints.

Gardening

I have been gardening for about three years. I grew up on several acres of land, and always had access to wild fruits. A few years ago, I began to miss that connection with nature, so I decided to plant an orchard in my yard, and additionally added several raised beds for growing fresh veggies. I have 15 fruit trees, and about 100 square feet of raised beds. I primarily grow tomatoes and cucumbers, which I process into tomato sauces and pickles, but I also grow winter salad greens. For the fruit trees, my most productive have been peaches, which I process for preserves, and salsa. I often use the canned products as holidays gifts for friends, family, and coworkers. To the best of my ability, I follow organic gardening practices and keep my own compost. It is a dream of mine to have an apple orchard of 100 or more trees, and offer organics at local farmers markets or have a seasonal pick your own.
