Work History

GIS Specialist

AECOM
06.2005 - Current
  • FEMA Open Space Monitoring National Dataset. Provide FEMA with high-quality geospatial dataset that accurately represents current inventory of properties that have been acquired via FEMA Hazard Mitigation Assistance (HMA) programs. Data quality goals achieved by processing FEMA’s current tabular property inventory and reconciling it with respective Region and State Offices’ datasets to provide most comprehensive and accurate spatial dataset. This is done through acquisition of geospatial and tabular parcel data from multiple data sources to assemble most complete collection of parcel boundary and attribute data possible. Performed detailed analysis to identify properties that were Open Space acquisitions using local tax parcel data, aerial imagery (historic and present), FEMA NFHL data, and built URLs to link parcels to their spatial coordinates. Led Quality Control effort implemented by Open Space Monitoring workflow document to oversee regional datasets prior to client submittal.
  • Led data migration of over 50 plant sites from AutoCAD mapping to GIS geodatabases. Enhanced and streamlined GIS data accuracy by implementing quality control procedures and addressing discrepancies in timely manner. Assisted in writing Standard Operating Procedures for CAD/GIS Department.
  • Led Discharge Prevention, Containment, and Countermeasure / Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure mapping. Collaborated with multidisciplinary teams to integrate GIS components for new mapping plan format per New Jersey Department of Environmental Control standards. Converted DGN/AutoCAD features to GIS geodatabase; coordinated with emergency response teams; standardized and maintained data; and updated plans per client request.
  • Led Statistical Analyst and Thiessen Polygons project. Created new site-wide land use, land cover layer by analyzing aerial imagery, reviewing historical plant maps, scanned and digitized maps, and field verification. Compiled surface and subsurface soil, sediment, and groundwater that exceeded state/EPA standards into geodatabase, then compiled with surface coverage layer for analysis. Developed area of potential impacted soil in effort to establish cost estimate for remediation effort.
  • Led GIS Conceptual Site Model. Assisted client in completing comprehensive preliminary assessment report (PAR) per New Jersey regulations. Developed GIS conceptual site model (CSM) geodatabase by combining all available data in manageable format. Identified all areas of potential environmental concern from historical manufacturing activities to guide future investigations. CSM was updated by integrating additional data (obtained through chemical, physical, and biological characterization). GIS-CSM included site operational history, determined through extensive research of historical documents, plant drawings, and air photographs; historical and current infrastructure features (sea wall, bulk heads, surface-water drainage, and historic shoreline); buildings, process units, major raw materials and products, era of operation, storage areas; landfills, surface impoundments, and conveyances; soil data from solid waste management unit investigations and appropriate soil reuse data; groundwater analytical and elevation data; site stratigraphy and hydrogeology; and topographic elevation of site.
  • New Jersey Natural Gas, Southern Reliability Link, Burlington, Monmouth, and Ocean Counties, Upper Freehold Township, New Jersey. Provided GIS support for 28-mile, 30-inch diameter gas transmission main. Tasks involved multiple levels of data collection, design, coordination, mapping for trenches, geotechnical soil sample locations, and cultural analysis shovel testing areas for permits, and flood hazard areas for public notice meetings.
  • Assisted with Federal Flood Risk Management Standard (FFRMS). Develop and deliver Raster Mapping using Freeboard Value Approach (FVA) method for 1% Annual Chance Floodplain (100-year); 0.2% Annual Chance Floodplain (500-year); 1 Foot above cited NFHL BFE; 2 Feet above cited NFHL BFE; and 3 Feet above cited NFHL BFE.
  • Trained and mentored 6 junior staff on GIS software usage, boosting team productivity and fostering collaborative work environment.
  • Developed custom cartographic products tailored to client specifications, delivering high-quality visual representations of complex information.
  • Performed ongoing maintenance on existing GIS datasets to ensure their relevance, accuracy, and completeness over time.
  • Facilitated communication between technical staff and non-GIS users through clear documentation of procedures and methodologies employed in projects.
  • Managed GIS databases and modified parameters for different needs.
  • Worked with clients to meet specific technical specifications and solve operational concerns.
  • Integrated Geographic Information Systems analyses into other programs to address existing problems.
  • Evaluated and enhanced current cartographic representations.
  • Combined remotely-collected and on-site data acquisition to generate unified geographic mapping information.
