Work History

Senior Epic Consultant

Nordic Global
11.2017 - Current
  • Contracted to improve clinical systems used by physicians to care for patients across the country. While at Nordic, I serviced the following organizations: Carilion Clinic (VA) Multicare Health System (WA, ID, OR), and Providence Health Services (WA, OR, AK, MT, CA).
  • Led teams to overhaul and update aging systems, and eliminate redundancies. Overall objectives focused on implementing new features to improve patient safety, enhance user satisfaction, reduce cost, and increase revenue. Met all project deliverables within allotted budget and timelines.
  • Carilion Clinic (2021-Present): Installed new security to replace outdated templates for all providers, clinical staff, directors, and administrators. Rebuilt and consolidated facility records covering more than 60 specialties including primary care, cardiology, oncology, orthopedics, and other medical/surgical specialties. Charting, ordering, billing, and reporting features were all enhanced by these changes. Back-end settings cleaned to improve ongoing maintenance efforts. Additional enhancements included a new advance care planning module to improve end-of-life coordinated care, new views of the EMR, standardized lab and medication order panels, and improvements to the patient portal (MyChart). More than 1,000 physicians, 14,000 staff, 170,000 patients, at over 400 departments affected by improvements.
  • Most recently in 2023, I implemented first draft responses to patient messages generated by AI (GPT 4.0) powered smart tools. The AI compares the patient's message with information stored in their chart including demographics, test results, and medications to generate an appropriate response which the physician can choose to user as-is, edit, or ignore. Reporting tools were also built to capture metrics to determine how often AI messages were used, and if not, why, and whether the tools saved the physicians time compared to past documentation practices.
  • MultiCare Health Systems (2017 - 2021): Contracted to work on backlog of midsized requests. Reduced backlog by 50% and reduced the average age of requests from 24+ months down to under 6 months. Built registries to aid in data collection and reporting for Case Management, HEDIS, Pain & Opioid, and Wellness. Corrected issues with results routing, prioritized issues with system level build and identified opportunities to better manage result routing errors. Coordinated Quest lab interface testing and debugging and related procedure and result component build, Implemented new MyChart sign-up features, new colon screening advisories, immunization scheduling rebuild, chart review rebuild, presurgical GI bowel prep order sets, various flowsheets, Smart Forms, and other build.
