I am Matthew Murray, a second-year business student at Tulane University in New Orleans, double majoring in Finance and Economics. I have a passion for business, particularly in how it intersects with art and entertainment. My goal is to leverage the skills and knowledge I gain during my studies to pursue a career in the arts and entertainment business, combining creativity with business thinking to make a meaningful impact in the industry.
I interned at Hallwood Media as part of the A&R team while working closely with every department across the company. In A&R, I scouted and researched unsigned talent, identified potential collaborations for both signed and unsigned artists, and trimmed/organized tracks for music distribution under the publishing division. In marketing, I created artist marketing slideshows, developed content ideas, managed TikTok accounts, handled social media scheduling, and produced engaging content for various artists. I also assisted with tour and concert preparations by sourcing set pieces, equipment, and other materials. My role extended to providing management support, including attending cross-departmental staff meetings and assisting with artist-related research. This experience strengthened my skills in creativity, content strategy, social media management, music research, and cross-functional collaboration, while giving me hands-on exposure to the full scope of the music business.
Provided care and support for underprivileged autistic and mentally challenged children, focusing on those aged six and under while engaging with children of all ages. Developed essential patience, responsibility, and empathy skills by managing daily activities and fostering a safe, inclusive environment. This role deepened my passion for connecting with others and reinforced the importance of understanding diverse perspectives. Helped design and implement creative, engaging activities tailored to each child's unique needs, promoting personal and social development.
Interned at LARGE Architecture on a project for the Weingart Center, contributing to design discussions and development. Sat in on team meetings and used architectural software to review building layouts, offering feedback on spatial organization. Assisted in designing the building's exterior by helping select colors, materials, and finishes. Gained insight into the collaborative design process and the real-world application of architectural planning.
