I am applying for the job of head coach for the Del Norte High School varsity baseball because I love the game of baseball and I love teaching it to young people.
I used an online program to fill out this resume and it had a lot of fancy pre filled out information but I feel like I should just keep it real with whoever reads this. I grew up with a dad who loved sports, I can remember driving around Southern California with him when I was a young boy listening to the games on the radio, he would take me to Angel's Stadium where I quickly became familiar with the players. I remember wanting to become a professional baseball player when I grew up. In 1989 my family relocated to Crescent City and a few years later I went to Del Norte High School where I graduated in 1997.
As with most lives, plans changed, I didn't even play baseball in high school. Against my dad's wishes I played golf for 4 years. It wasn't until I had kid's of my own that my love of coaching began. I began coaching t-ball when my oldest was 4 years old. I have 3 boys Jake (20) Benjamin (18) and Taylor (14). I have coached them throughout Little League for most of their lives. When Taylor began to play t-ball my love for coaching grew. He loved the game with a new passion that I appreciated.
Josh Lopez and I eventually began coaching Taylor and Lucas (Josh's son) together and have continued to since they were young. This eventually led to travel ball and All-Star teams through Little League. We both have had success with the boys that we have coached. Josh has inspired me over the years to grow in my knowledge and understanding of the game and challenged me to become the best baseball coach possible.
Josh and I volunteered to be assistant coaches for the Junior Varsity baseball team where we helped out Ross Dickey and had a great time doing it. As you know Taylor and Lucas will be sophomores next year. Josh and I have coached most of these boys since they were 4 and 5 years old and have developed a special bond with them as well as their parents. We have spent countless hours of practice as well as tournaments and road trips with this crew and would love to continue this journey as they grow.
Over the years of coaching Del Norte Little League and U.S.S.S.A baseball I have represented our community with pride and passion. I love the people of this area who have so generously donated to our teams through fundraising.
I think I would be a good fit to coach baseball here at DN, I believe I have a decent ability to communicate which in my opinion is extremely important when coaching and dealing with parents. I believe that at times I have the ability to inspire young men to work hard and to be selfless putting others before themselves.
In closing, if I could continue to teach these boys one thing it would be thankfulness, I want them to understand how fortunate each one of them are for the opportunity to play such a wonderful game but not only that I want them to be thankful for their parents and their siblings, their teachers and their teammates, I want them to be thankful for their health because at any moment our lives could drastically change and a practice or game or at bat might be their last, I want to continue to instill in them integrity and honesty, to do the right thing when no one is around. These boys deserve a coach that not only loves the game but loves teaching it to young men.
I may not be picked to get the job, it might be Josh or Ross or someone else and I would be ok with that, simply because I know Josh would do a wonderful job. Josh and I coached with Ross last year and we meshed really well with each other; Ross would be a good pick also.
If I am picked, I will be nervous and probably a bit overwhelmed, out of my league for sure but I promise I will give this team 100% of my effort and energy.
Thank you for your consideration.
