Work History

Lieutenant of Force, Advanced Training, Academy

Albuquerque Police Department
12.2022 - Current

- I ensure CASA compliance by creating and updating use of force training quarterly/yearly for the Albuquerque Police Department (APD) and APD Supervisors. This requires a good understanding of how policy intersects with best practices and integrates emerging trends to make new and updated training maximally effective. As such, this position has required me to be responsible for multiple CASA paragraphs directly and tangentially related to use of force.

- I represent the central intake for all Mandatory Training Requests (MTRs). This requires me to review all requests for proper documentation and assess the need for training. Additionally, it is my responsibility for delegating the training to the appropriate Divisions (RBT, Advanced Training, Range, CIU, etc.) to ensure the training is effective. A database was created to track all MTR's and I was responsible for prioritizing the training and ensuring the MTRs are completed in a timely manner. I am also responsible for signing off on completed training and closing out all MTRs upon the Academy Commander's final approval.

- I am responsible for coordinating with Advanced Training and Basic Training to ensure continuity in use of force principles and lessons. In that same vein, I coordinate with the Reality Based Training Center (RBT) and the firearms range to translate classroom lessons related to use of force to practical application scenarios that are in line with the training, with policy, and best practices.

- I am responsible for delivering developed or updated use of force trainings to the Albuquerque Police Department. This requires roster development, the proper allocation of resources, and close out memorandums to ensure proper documentation and training records.

- I serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for all things related to use of force on several committees at the behest of the Academy Commander. This includes both the Force Review Board and the Training Committee.

- I coordinate with the Internal Affairs Force Division (IAFD) to on-board all new IAFD personnel, sworn and civilian, to ensure a solid foundation in use of force principles and administrative investigations.
