Demonstrated success in overseeing legal teams, managing caseloads, and ensuring empathetic engagement with clients. Managing attorney staff, paralegal and legal advocates in order to serve victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, inter-family violence, human trafficking and other areas of victimization including physical, financial and emotional abuses. Our services are primarily focused on family law protections in restraining orders and child custody. Additionally, we are open and creative in helping victims in various other ways, including name changes, guidance in the criminal justice system and financial independence.
Our focus is the safety and independence of the people we serve. I oversee intake, caseloads and all aspects of the legal unit, including grant adherence and the gathering of statistics to maintain those grants.
I served as a Deputy Public Defender, a Chief Deputy Public Defender and Interim Public Defender in my more than twenty four years of representing indigent defendants. I was unwavering in my commitment to helping my clients and serving the community. I tried all manner of cases from misdemeanors to felonies including murder and death penalty cases. I managed my own felony caseload throughout my time as a public defender. Additionally, I managed attorney staff, investigative staff and clerical.
I worked both as a certified law student and an attorney for this law firm. John Markham was my evidence professor in law school and asked me to join him in investigating and in the representation of a first degree murder defendant. He hired me because of my experience with youth in trouble and gangs. I aided in the investigation and litigation of both state and federal criminal cases, including money laundering and drug trafficking. As a certified law student, I sat second chair in a first degree murder trial.
