Army Achievement Award

Effective Date: 09 July 2025 - 08 September 2025 

2LT Matute served as the Track Commander for 55-16 during 8th Army Consolidated Gunnery from 16June-03July 2025. His leadership, tactical decision-making, and communication were instrumental in guiding the crew to earn a Distinguished Qualification. He ensured effective coordination among the driver and gunner while maintaining situational awareness and mission focus throughout the engagement. 2LT Matute's performance exemplified strong junior officer leadership and contributed significantly to crew success, enhancing lethality within the 11th Engineer Battalion and generating  "Fight tonight!" readiness.  

Army Commendation Award

Achievement 1: 1LT Matute served as the 1st Platoon Leader, 55th CEC-A for 12 months, directly supporting the 2nd Infantry Division. He has been successful in the continuous management for the training, readiness, welfare, discipline, and safety of 34 Soldiers as well as the maintenance and  accountability of $4.6 million of mission essential equipment. He led his platoon through multiple ROK-US combined exercises, two squad certification events, a company live fire, and one division field training exercise, which contributed greatly to the readiness of the brigade.  

Achievement 2: 1LT Matute planned, resourced, and executed four weapon qualification ranges, including two M249, one M240, and one M26 range. Through deliberate planning and strict enforcement of safety standards, he enabled over 75 Soldiers to qualify on their crew-served weapon systems. Additionally, 1LT Matute led two Engineer Qualification Table events, training over 100  Engineers on their basic individual tasks. 1LT Matute's efforts greatly contributed to the lethality of the  2ID Artillery Brigade.  

Achievement 3: 1LT Matute led his platoon through two successful ROK-US combined exercises.  Under his leadership, his platoon trained and instructed two separate ROKA Engineer battalions on subterranean breaching operations and close quarters combat training. Additionally, his platoon integrated into a ROKA engineer company and provided expert breaching capability during the seizure of an underground bunk network. His tactical expertise and ability to integrate with partnered forces strengthened the ROK-US alliance and improved combined engineer lethality.  

Achievement 4: 1LT Matute successfully integrated his platoon into two 2ID-level exercises. His platoon was instrumental in the Korean Rotational Force-16's platoon and company combined arms live fire exercise, where they successfully executed four separate breaches to provide mobility to follow-on forces. His platoon additionally served in the Cross Domain Reconnaissance Squadron during Freedom Shield 2026, where he led them in providing critical intelligence for the division throughout the entire exercise.
