I’m a hardworking and adaptable environmental science student with hands-on experience in wildland firefighting, landscaping, and habitat restoration. I’ve learned to lead small teams, solve problems efficiently, and perform well under pressure. I am now the University of Washington sailing team captain which has helped me build strong leadership and teamwork skills while traveling and competing across the West Coast.
While studying at the University of Washington, I am making the most of my time by being an active and engaged member of the Husky Sailing Team. Currently, I serve as a co-captain, which has been an incredibly rewarding leadership role. In addition to competing at the collegiate level—traveling throughout the Pacific Northwest and California for interconference regattas—I oversee various aspects of team operations.
As captain, I am responsible for planning regattas, ensuring day-to-day practices run smoothly, coordinating logistics for travel events, and managing our team’s schedule. I also lead efforts to secure funding by applying for grants and connecting with potential donors, which has significantly enhanced my organizational and communication skills. Additionally, our team volunteers at concessions at the Climate Pledge Arena, and I ensure our members are scheduled and show up as needed.
This role has further refined my interpersonal skills, strengthened my ability to manage multiple priorities, and deepened my connection to the local sailing community. Being a part of this team has been an extraordinary experience, allowing me to grow both as a sailor and as a leader.
