Aircraft Sheet Metal Mechanic

  • Measured installation locations with care to cut materials accurately and minimize waste, pattern/layout development,engineering dispositions and utilizing drawings.
  • Read blueprints and schematics correctly to complete jobs accurately and prevent rework.
  • Perform QUALITY assurance and QUALITY control inspections of work performed by follow sheet metal mechanics.
  • Use hand tool, powered drilling and cutting tools to repair/replace, fabricate and fit patches to damaged areas following OT and/or engineering instructions, layout and drill/ream fastener holes, prime and install, fit trim parts existing sheet metal assemblies to restore appearance and functionality, such as wings, stabilizers, cowlings, tails, landing gear doors.
  • Worked directly on MD 80/90 and Boeing 737 during their heavy depot checks and cpcp inspections. Including but not limited to, pressurized flush skin repairs/replacements, frame, seat/cargo tracks, ribs, web, clean up and evaluate corrosion, dents, and gouges.
  • Operate necessary aircraft ground support equipment (AGE) and perform most sheet metal mechanic duties with little or no supervision.
  • Cultivated vast knowledge of shot peen, including part installation, component removal, modifications to frames, beams, access doors, ribs, brackets, stringers, skin, panels and other related items.
  • Responsible for controlling, storing, and disposal of hazardous materials such as cleaners, alcohols, acids, solvents, primers and surface coatings used for corrosion removal.
  • Perform necessary testing to identify types of corrosion present by chemical/mechanical methods,examination with magnifying equipment, treat aircraft engines, in accordance with applicable technical publications.
  • Computer used to document actions and maintain records.
