Teacher of the D/deaf and Hard of Hearing extensively trained in helping students with special needs with over 20 years of experience. Engaging and enthusiastic about hands-on-learning with children. Highly skilled in working with students, proficient in sign language, knowledgeable about a variety of systems used to improve hearing within the classroom, advocate for students with hearing loss, and provider of in-services- teaching teachers about students with hearing loss.
During my time working for the Pittsburgh Public Schools I have worn several hats and have had a variety of experiences. During my 21 years, I have worked within a resource classroom as well as itinerantly. I have had the pleasure of teaching those as young as 3 in early intervention programs as well as those getting ready to graduate from high school. I have built relationships with many peers and collaborated with a variety of teachers, speech therapists, psychologists, transition counselors, occupational therapists, and physical therapists.
Currently, I am responsible for 10 school buildings within the Pittsburgh Public School District. Depending on the individual student I either push into classrooms or pull out for direct instruction. I am able to troubleshoot hearing aids, cochlear implants as well as bone anchored hearing aids as well as hearing assistive technology.
