Summary

While working in the Neurocritical Care Unit I presented a poster at the AANN conference in 2023 on decreasing violence in healthcare with use of the Red Behavior Scale as a part of THE WELLE training I do. I also received my certification in Stroke patient care to be a leader on my unit in providing evidence based care in our Comprehensive Stroke Program. I am a part of our Skin team which participates in a monthly quality tracking and improvement process for patients and staff. I routinely precept new hires on our unit. As our unit moved to the new Pavillion I played an intricate role as a resource to current staff as well as new staff on boarding in regards to the move. Im certified in BLS/ACLS. I've participated in our unit/hospital education days for mandatory competencies like central lines dressing change and Foley insertion and care.

Hospital Committees and Unit Activities

  • 2021-Present: Staff Scheduler: Along with another staff member we develop and balance a schedule to optimize the units needs with Nurses and Patient Care Techs. We follow all contract rules as well as try to maintain a positive flow for staff with vacations, business times, reductions in appointment fractions and medical leaves.
  • 2021-Present: WELLE Trainor: Attend classes in order to roll out and teach current and new staff on behavioral, physical and psychological safety for patients and staff.
  • 2017-Present: Preceptor: Orient new staff and nursing students to the unit until schedule orientation is completed and then continue to be their mentor. Working to improve the orientation process and empower nurses in order to retain nurses in the unit.
  • 2017-2022: Unit Charge Nurse in 4D: Duties includes: management of staff and creating optimal patient care assignments at the beginning and throughout the shift based upon continuous evaluation of patient care requirements and staffing resources. Anticipate and plan for staffing needs for upcoming shifts. Function as a resource to nursing and unlicensed assistive personnel. Communicate with staff, Bed Management, House Supervisor, and other units in order to collaborate patient’s transferring out and incoming to the unit. Take appropriate action regarding unresolved problems which affect the nurse, patient, his/her family, or significant other.
  • 2018-2019, 2024-2025 4D Unit Based Committee (UBC) and Workload Committee Functions: identify and prioritize work that meets patient and family needs; empower the nursing staff to identify clinical issues and implement evidence-based solutions and evaluate outcome results. UBC role out “FAN OUT” where the entire nursing staff is divided and assigned to a member of the committee making a “team.” Each team will be responsible for a Quality Indicator (QI): CLABSI, VAEs, CAUTIs, C-Diff, Pressure Ulcers, Falls, Pain Reassessment, Hand Hygiene, Ventriculostomy/Surgical site infections, and Sensitivity & Civility. Each member of the committee will update/go over UBC minutes and will discuss updates on Quality Indicators Pressure Ulcers, CAUTI, CLABSI, Ventriculitis, C-Diff statistics with their teams. Each team is responsible for encouraging the implementing and planning, researching, and working on how to improve each QI within the unit.
