Megan Kurtz

• Reporting directly to Chief of Staff in the Office of the President, this position encompasses representing the Chico State to the Chico community and the Far Northern Region to build strategic relationships and create pathways for a collaborative relationships to support the mission and priorities of Chico State
• Responsible for establishing a liaison relationship with local landlords, policy-making organizations, local leaders and elected officials for the City of Chico
• Extends community building and learning beyond the campus of CSU, Chico by providing resources, services and programs designed to assist and guide students navigate the community
• Liaison for community entities to have an entry point into the university to navigate projects and facilitate collaboration
• Committed to educating students on how to become an active and responsible member of the City of Chico community
• Serves as campus liaison to local property management companies and individual landlords with the goal of developing positive living experiences for students and neighbors
• Active committee member of: University Police and Public Safety Advisory Committee, Campus Action Response Team, Campus Assessment and Response Evaluation, Enrollment Continuum

• Serves the campus and community through collaborative relationships that are beneficial for the local and regional long term recovery from the Camp Fire
• Helping establish Chico State as a global, national, and statewide partner in disaster recovery research and being an informational resource for the President and representative of the University
• Cultivating collaboration between departments that have off campus connections in order to preserve institutional knowledge and relationships in order to support a thriving Butte County
• Represents the Office of the President in community collaborations to help foster meaningful relationships with the general public as an anchor institution in the region

• TRiO-Student Support Services
• Understanding of emerging adult non-cognitive skill development
• Personal support related to the unique needs of low income, first generation, and disabled students

• Plans and conducts training programs and staff meetings
• Provides individual and group advice/coaching services to program participants in matters pertaining to academic, financial, non-cognitive, and personal challenges and issues
• Collaborates and works closely with faculty and other student support professionals on campus, including: Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), Student Learning Center (SLC), Financial Aid, Career Center, and other campus support programs

First Year Experience and Civic Engagement

A comprehensive introduction to university life. Topics include transition to academic and campus life, introduction to campus resources, academic expectations and developing skills to meet them, introduction to information literacy including financial, housing, and informed citizenship.

• TRiO- Student Support Services
• Rapidly acquired a working knowledge of the federal TRiO SSS grant and brought it under compliance in collaboration with the Project Director
• Identified specific objectives and overall purpose and function of the grant program using careful discernment of program rules and regulations, while still maintaining a healthy relationship with current TRiO participants
• Rallied and gained support from other student services units on campus, including faculty, administrators, and student organizations to ensure that the TRiO SSS grant would be able to continue serving a group of first-generation and low-income students on the CSU, Chico campus
• Clearly set grant boundaries in order to establish programming while learning to interpret and apply federal regulations inside of a state agency
• Evaluated and recommended a course of program model implementation for Peer Mentoring, Peer Interns, and Cohort Success Seminars for the TRiO SSS program
• Exchanged information with students, staff, other campus resources regarding the TRiO SSS program, services, eligibility requirements, policies, timelines, required forms and other information
• Designed and implemented a five-day summer orientation program FOCUS for incoming freshmen participants to ensure their academic readiness and knowledge of campus resources.
