A passionate young woman seeking to continue on in the Education field using the skills garnered through a mixture of relevant experiences. Practical knowledge in said field includes 7 months to date at Fostering Leadership Academy, a trauma-informed charter school, two years of substitute teaching, and working with a variety of student populations in a non-traditional setting.
Beginning towards the conclusion of the 2020/2021 school year, much time was devoted to implementing routines, establishing relationships with students, and planning lessons for small groups with varied needs. Great emphasis was placed school-wide on creating a student centered environment that was trauma informed and need based as so many of our learners perform at varying levels. Sections included a 6/7 spilt group, a 7th grade section, and an 8th grade class. In addition, general office and administrative duties for the department are performed and frequent collaboration with other teachers, staff, social workers & all other MCHS employees as is appropriate has become essential in regards to developing trauma-focused disciplinary and safety plans for our learners.
*Promoted internally to Guest Services Coordinator. In this role, I served as Division head of the MCMS Guest Services Division. The first individual to hold this position, I worked to establish policies and procedures for any successor, including the creation of several manuals and organizational strategies. Duties included supervising employees within my division, processing invoices, submitting vendors, and managing multiple cash funds for the Museum. I also oversaw ticket/commerce sales, assisted in and give interviews, made reports and selected/trained new hires.
As a freelance substitute with EDUStaff, responsibilities included filling-in for permanent teachers from Pre-K-12th grade with emphases on classroom & resource management, supervising students and ensuring classroom safety, and delivering productive class periods. While in session I enjoyed recording notes for the regular teacher, SAT-prepping with students, and facilitating discussions regarding their classwork. Collaboration occurred repeatedly with secretaries, co-teachers, classroom aides and other substitutes in order to make sure that the buildings I served in were fully staffed and running normally.
As a Presenter, I worked for the County of Monroe at the Monroe County Museum System, which they manage financially and personnel wise. In this role, I gave tours of various historic sites (eras ranging from 1789-forward), wrote programs tailored to specific audiences, gathered source materials for hands-on interaction with these groups (often using MI Educational Standards as a guide for appropriate content), dressed in period clothing to assist in more elaborate programs and created pop-up exhibit labels for various exhibit set-ups.
