At Chilchinbeto Community School (CCS) I used the basil curriculum approach. However, CCS had a Reading First grant. The reading program that was used at CCS was the Voyager Passport program using DIBLES to monitor each child’s progress. DIBLES provides the means to screen and track the child to see if they are able to read on grade level. It also provides a diagnostic placement for each child screened to place them in the level of instruction indicated, points out the strength and weaknesses, and informs what stage they are in along with what skills they are lacking.
The Voyager program is designed to identify all children at risk of reading failure and to provide immediate intervention so each child can become a fluent reader. The Voyager program is a K-4th grade

At Chinle Boarding School, I taught second-grade gifted and talented students using the High Scope curriculum. The High Scope program is an early childhood curriculum that acknowledges each child as an individual with a variety of interests and needs, basing learning on the child’s developmental stage. Each month focuses on a unique theme relevant to school-age interests. These theme-related activities teach children to practice critical thinking skills, giving them confidence, creativity, and self-expression using all subject area content across the curriculum. I used the Meizels Learning Record assessment tool for evaluating student academic success. This type of teaching program allowed for collaborative problem-solving, promoting recall and deeper comprehension of content for the students.
