At Chilchinbeto Community School (CCS) I used the basil curriculum approach. However, CCS had a Reading First grant. The reading program that was used at CCS was the Voyager Passport program using DIBLES to monitor each child’s progress. DIBLES provides the means to screen and track the child to see if they are able to read on grade level. It also provides a diagnostic placement for each child screened to place them in the level of instruction indicated, points out the strength and weaknesses, and informs what stage they are in along with what skills they are lacking.

The Voyager program is designed to identify all children at risk of reading failure and to provide immediate intervention so each child can become a fluent reader. The Voyager program is a K-4th grade
