- Obtain patient history relative to the reason for the visit from owners; Enter patient history and visit charges into ezyVet software; Assist the veterinarian with the physical exam of the patient; Prepare estimates for recommended procedures (ie: LS steroid epidural injection, MRI, surgery) and diagnostics (ie: radiographs, ultrasound, bloodwork); discuss estimate with owners including the timeline of results for diagnostics; scheduling of the procedure; Send records to the patients primary veterinarian and owner; complete referral information as needed.
- Follow scrub-in procedures by gowning and gloving using sterile technique; Assist the surgeon during surgical procedures maintaining a sterile field; Assist the veterinarian for sterile procedures (Spinal tap, epidural injection, muscle biopsy)
- Administer injections (IV, SC, IM), oral medications, and topical medications prescribed by the veterinarian; Assist in preparation and administration of anesthesia for surgical cases; Collect and prepare specimens for in-house and send out laboratory testing; Perform in-house diagnostics with Idexx analyzers (ProCyte, Catalyst One)
- Fill prescribed medications for patients; educate clients on each medication as necessary
- Position animals for diagnostic imaging such as x-rays and ultrasound scans.
- Clean and disinfect exam rooms, treatment areas, kennels, waiting areas, and employee break room; Restock the hospital as needed.
- Assist veterinarians with euthanasia of animals.
- Provide client support, answer questions and address concerns, review go-home instructions, educate clients on post-surgical care, expectations, and recheck schedule.
