I think I am a adaptable individual with a strong background in leadership and community service, exemplified through my role as a group leader at the AISA GISS Conferences and through playing Field Hockey. I am skilled in problem-solving and fostering collaboration through babysitting a 4 and 6 year old. And lastly, I have successfully developed tailored educational programs as a tutor, enhancing student engagement and learning outcomes. I love interacting with new people, creating connections, and serving my community which I think are important characteristics for a serving position.
Every year, there is a conference held in a new African country. All international schools within the African continent are invited and a few from each school are selected to attend. Both years I attended (Ghana and Tanzania) I was chosen as the group leader. I led students from my school through the conference which focuses on tackling the 17 United Nations Sustainability Goals. In my first year I worked on goal 1 "No poverty" and year 2 I worked on goal 2 & 4 "No hunger" and "Quality Education".
Almost every week I would take care of Matilda and Sebastian for a few hours. I would plan fun engaging activities such as making playdough from scratch, painting on canvases, cooking their dinners together, and teaching them a new sport such as mini golf, croquet and field hockey.
I would ensure to communicate effectively with their parents about the activities of the day and both children's behavioral patterns.
I also always prepared nutritious meals and snacks, catering to dietary restrictions and preferences and maintained cleanliness of play areas, the kitchen, and their bedrooms; promoting a respected, safe and organized environment.
I worked in Botswana for ten days completing a 120 hour volunteer project where we created a new elephant drinking hole for the expectation of a seasonal drought.
I have played field hockey for over ten years and would say my character stems from the mindset I have developed from being an athlete. I have become extremely coachable, I learn quickly, listen to directions, and focus on every detail. I hold respect for my surrounding team and coach, hold leadership positions when needed, and focus on all tasks given to me. I will continue my Field Hockey journey play D3 at Wesleyan University.
I spent 10 days in a small village outside of Chiang Mai, Thailand, where I took Thai cooking lessons taught by the local villagers, served food to the community and collected Asian elephant data through reviewing their eating habits and walking patterns.
Alongside my brother, we created a company called Matimba which focuses on distributing ethanol based cookstoves to communities in Southern Africa.
