Mia Rojas

During the summer season my dance studio held a dance summer camp where I was assistant dance teacher. Through this volunteer work I worked with young kids directly, ages 3-5. As Assistant Dance Teacher I assisted the lead instructor in developing lessons and choreography for certain dance styles.

Skills I learned:

• Managing classroom behavior effectively, maintaining a positive learning environment for all students.
• How to serve as a role model for young dancers, demonstrating passion for the art form as well as strong work ethic and discipline.
• Which age-appropriate vocabulary and music to use to teach class, keeping positive, enthusiastic attitude.

I began as a volunteer for the front of house team working during ticketed events helping organize patrons, and make sure their experience went smoothly. As the months went on I continued doing this volunteer work and was able to help with concession and behind the front desk. Through this work I worked for families, mainly families with young children.

The skills I gained from this volunteer work was being able to

• Maintain clean, neat, and operational facilities to serve the patrons and the theatre.
• Support engaging, fun, and smooth-running events by helping with organization and planning.
• Communicate with staff members to stay informed about volunteer opportunities and events.
• Understand how to represent organization positively and professionally while providing community with much-needed services.
