As the lead Medic on ALS capable unit, coordinated all patient care and procedures needed up to and including endotracheal intubation, IV initiation, medication administration, electrical cardioversion or defibrillation, CPR or simply assess and evaluate the patient as we found them and facilitate an AMA release if they so chose. I was in charge of documentation of patient encounters and keeping current all "card class" certifications. Operated 2 way radio to communicate with dispatch and hospitals along with other field units as needed. Utilized portable computers on board the MICU for charting and other needed tasks. Delegated care to other Paramedics or to EMTs within their respective scopes of practice with the overall mission of treating the patient safely, efficiently, courteously and effectively. I occasionally drove the ambulance and operated it in emergency mode in various weather conditions and traffic patterns.

I achieved the level of FTO charged with the responsibility of training new employees on the policies and procedures and documenting their progress making recommendations to proceed to credentialing by the Office of the Medical Director or to another FTO unit for remediation training.
I also helped to train numerous Paramedic students in various stages of their education with hands on ride outs providing patient care. Documentation of the student's progress was done through their respective schools. In the case a student was in their final preceptorship, they were with me exclusively for several weeks each scheduled shift (excluding overtime unless they wanted to ride the shift to complete hours sooner). At the conclusion of the preceptorship, they were given recommendation to proceed to program graduation or a remedial period of training prior to that. I never had to recommend remediation and all of my students went on to successfully pass the National Registry and gain their Paramedic credentials.
Additionally, I worked part time in the Communications Center (with a 6 month period full time following an injury) triaging calls utilizing the NAEMD PRO-QA protocol assigning appropriate priority response from field units. We rotated into periods on the radio during the shift where we would be on the "Main" channel dispatching the calls coming in from call takers by pre-alerting the closest unit to get them mobile and then dispatching the call once all the information was entered. On the "secondary" channel, we handled traffic from units after they'd arrived on scene until the time they were clear from the hospital. It was not uncommon to have upwards of 45 units on the street at the height of the day with only a few not assigned to calls for service. Annual call volume was around 120,000 for this service.
