Work History

Vascular Access Registered Nurse

Veterans Administration
10.2006 - Current
  • I currently serve as lead vascular access Rn under the Anesthesia service. I am responsible for answering all vascular access consults and utilize my many years of experience to recommend and insert the appropriate IV device to insure the best possible outcome for our patients.
  • I serve as a mentor to new hires, providing guidance on clinical skills, organizational policies, and best practices for optimal patient care in the vascular access setting. Specifically, during my long employment at the VA, I have trained several RNs to place PICCs and Midlines and proctored 10 successful PICC insertions for each trainee.
  • I facilitate smooth transitions between units and discharge to home or long term care for patients requiring ongoing vascular access care, ensuring seamless continuity of treatment.
  • I contribute to research efforts in the field of vascular access nursing, staying current on emerging trends and best practices. I have been a strong advocate for a vessel health and preservation model that promotes, among other things, early identification of patients with difficult access, and the insertion of appropriate diameter devices that maintain a proper catheter to vein ratio.
  • I enhance staff competency by providing comprehensive training on proper vascular access techniques with ultrasound and other equipment usage.
