  • In the Thermite Department we are responsible for the making of master metal ingots. Which are then sent through our on site processing departments to be milled and sized. After that our metals are sent through our Xray department to be scanned for dense material and unwanted foreign objects.
  • I use the crane to transport furnaces back and forth on the melt line. Also other various objects as needed. (i.e. equipment, hot tops, machine parts)
  • Responsible for properly handling raw, hazardous, and dangerous materials ( i.e. chrome, vanadium, aluminum, sodium chlorite) whether when I'm mixing in the mix room, or working on the line.
  • Once a mix is made, it is transported and loaded into the tumbler. From the tumbler, we discharge the mix into the furnace. The mix is lit with a sparkler at the end of a broom stick. A thermite reaction is used to bond all the materials in the mix to create the desired alloy.
  • Required to record detailed data for each ingot we produce, and send through processing.
  • Ametek is a 5S and Six Sigma work place. Practiced and exercised heavily, daily.
  • Safety for myself and others is the most important part of my job here at Ametek. We work in a very dangerous environment. Everyday we are tested by extreme heat, heavy PPE, hot material, toxic material, and explosive material. We work together ensuring we deliver a quality product, and that we make it home to our families in one piece.
