Accomplishments

USACE North Bulkhead and South Jetty Repair (Superintendent) Indian River Inlet, DE

  • This job was made up of 2 main phases to increase bulkhead stability at the Indian River Inlet. First stage was to drive multiple sheet pile walls as well as a post and panel wall (king pile wall). The second phase was to stabilize and armor the existing bulkhead with rock to reach a more sustainable slope. Due to slope stability before stabilization a plan had to be developed on how to perform the work without increasing any ground pressure to the existing bulkhead. Michael and his construction team were able to develop a work plan that meet the requirements given by the client while still exceeding production and safety goals. Michael was responsible for all day to day activities as well as helping design and implement multiple RFIs that lead to a better overall project. The job had zero lost time accidents and became a very successful project for both Agate and the USACE.
  • Piscataway WTP Bio-Energy Project (Superintendent) Piscataway, MD

  • This project was a first for Ulliman Schutte in terms of the type of work to be completed. Michael was able to develop a construction plan using his knowledge with geotechnical, structural steel, equipment management, and CAD/BIM that improved the daily output by 200%. Not only did this allow for the work to be done faster and at higher profit margins but allowed less disturbance to the client and allowed them to return to normal operations sooner while giving them a better overall product. The means and methods used on this project is now the baseline for all futures bids at Ulliman Schutte.
  • USACE CSX Pier Catholic Protection (Superintendent) Baltimore, MD

  • This project was unique due to the multiple agencies guidelines that had to be followed and making sure they did not hinder the transportation or delivery of coal to CSX via freighter or barge. On this project Michael had to communicate and work with MDE, MDNE, USACE and ensure all of their conditions were met and proper documentation was completed and standards upheld. The success of this project opened the door for future USACE projects in the near future for the company.
  • Norman M. Cole WTP Solids Processing Rehab. (Superintendent) Lorton, VA

  • This was the largest project Michael has ran to date, US was the CMAR of this project which was valued at 380 million dollars. US also had a self-perform portion of 108 million which included all the mechanical a,d site work for this project. The critical path was the installation of a 84” CPPC pipe that was the outfall for the WT plant. Due to a earlier failed attempt Michael was tasked to develop a work plan and build a team to successfully install over 2000’ of pipe. Michael was able to develop a work plan that increased production to over 150%, increasing production from a planned 60 feet a week to 100 feet. Due to this he was able to finish this project over 2 months early allowing the rest of the project a head start as well. Michael and US was able to complete this ahead of schedule and allow the state of Virginia to save significant money and resources due to be fully operational sooner.
  • Bureau of Ocean Energy Management Pipeline Jetting (Superintendent) Gulf of Mexico

  • This was a emergency project after the hurricane Catrina hit the Gulf of Mexico and damaged over 80% of rigs and pipelines in its path. Michael was tasked with repairing and re-burying the oil pipe lines the stretched over 80 miles. During this time Michael had to collaborate and communicate with National Wildlife Federation, Gulf of Mexico Conservation Corps, EPA, 8th Coast Guard District to ensure the work was done correctly without any impact to the eco-system.
