Hello my name is Michael Ramos I live in a family of seven, I graduated from Adamson high school and im currently a freshman at UNT Dallas . Im interested in getting a job as a tutor here in the organization LULAC. I was a mentor at Adamson My senior year, to be a mentor I had to have good grades and pass an interview. I had three freshman mentees, one was a boy and two of them where girls. At Adamson, mentors have their own class where they taught us ways to be more interactive with mentees, and how to have a better bond with them. Examples of things we did where candy grams for our mentees for different holidays and seasons. We would also make them letters of encouragement for when they where scheduled to take a test. We would also check up with them to see if they needed help studying. As a mentor we also did different community service one time we where at a church where we helped them with a halloween event for the community. My junior year I decided to join track because one of my close friends who had been doing it since freshman year invited me. After a couple of weeks of training and me pushing myself and my team mates. My coach was real cool and made me captain of the cross country team. He saw that I was a motivator and would take me to Hector P Garcia Middle School to encourage them to join cross country.
I was so excited to be captain because I was competing with two of my friends who had been doing cross country since their freshman years. I wasn't the fastest runner so I questioned myself why my coach chose me. One day he came up and told me the fastest runner is not meant to be captain but the person who motivates everyone is. I felt proud and I led my team to get second place in our district. At the sports banquet for our school I got a best captain award and I had a couple of out of state cross country scholarships but I didn't take them because i wanted to be close to home here to support my family. Two awards that im extremely proud to have got are that I was the Firme scholarship winner this year ,and in middle school I won a state STEM competition that took place in Austin. The competition was awesome since I was in a small charter school, winning it gave me the mindset that can do anything I put my mind into. My first job was at Bahama Beach Water Park I was a simple water park attendant, my duties where to dispatch people on rides and make sure they have a good time. I always made sure to do anything I was told and I trusted the process that one day I was going to be a supervisor at work. The next season i was promoted as Head Water park attendant I was so proud of myself, I couldn't believe I was promoted after one season and I was even more proud of myself because most of my coworkers where older than me and it wasn't them who got promoted it was me . I had more job responsibilities making sure slides, and water where operable. I was also in charge of making errands for the park, and ensuring life guards and water park attendants are hydrated and motivated to work. Being head water park attendant helped me improve my communication and encouraging leadership skills. I also got to interact with many kids from different recreation centers and with the community at my job. In my family im the oldest and I have four younger siblings and one on it's way. Having so many younger siblings has given me the chance to learn patience. I help my brothers on assignments its given me an idea of how to work with younger kids, and an idea on how I can use those skills to encourage kids to do their work.
