  • Responsible for overseeing 270 staff and half of the divisions within the agency that assist districts and schools in preparing 1.1 million students for post-secondary aspirations, careers, and life.
  • The Deputy Superintendent represents the Superintendent in K-12 outreach efforts and oversees the production and implementation of state and federal policy.
  • The divisions include the Student Assessment and Data Strategy office, which collects and reports information about Washington's public school student learning, and the Educator Growth and Development office, which ensures access to high-quality professional learning opportunities to support teachers, principals, and other school leaders throughout the career continuum.
  • Oversees Special Education and related services on behalf of more than 130,000 eligible students in Washington.
  • Oversees Federal Accountability and Student Safety and Support that work to ensure an equitable approach to the learning of all students.
  • Oversees Secondary and Elementary divisions, early learning, and CTE to ensure student learning meets rigorous learning standards.
  • Responsible for overseeing global delegations, including overseas trips to Switzerland and Taiwan, as well as receiving delegations from South Korea, Japan, and Mexico.
  • Responsible for the oversight of $1.5 billion in state and federal grants and contracts, in addition to executive support of the $16.5 billion in funding to public schools.

  • Monitored and managed multiple multi-million dollar grants at both state and district levels.

  • Responsible for the oversight of the design and implementation of the new Washington State Teacher and Principal Evaluation System.
  • Managed the TPEP steering committee (OSPI, WEA, AWSP, WASA, WSPTA, WSSDA) and 16 district pilot sites engaged in the development and implementation of the new teacher and principal evaluation legislation E2SSB 6696 & ESSB 5895.
  • Managed the distribution of $5.7 million in pilot grants, evaluation resource support, and communication and outreach to education stakeholders, superintendents, and legislators.

  • Management of a multi-faceted program that encourages Washington State teachers to become National Board Certified, assisted in maintaining their Certification, and oversaw the distribution of 70 million dollars in bonuses to National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs).
  • Washington State continues to invest in the National Board and, in 2024, boasts over 11,000 NBCTs and is the third largest active teaching cohort in the country.
