Michael John Penaflor Jr.

Michael became a Music Intern for Tamara Paige (a music educator with 20+ years directing a wide variety of ensembles in San Diego) in his Senior Year and focused heavily on working with an Advanced Middle School Orchestra, but also assisting in 2 Beginner Middle School Orchestras, and 2 High school Orchestras.

• Taught and Conducted multiple middle and high school music classes, varying in technique, skills, and abilities while choosing the repertoire, deciding students' placement, and grading performances.
• Taught curriculum-enhanced lesson plans to educate 32 students about the fundamentals and history of music.
• Familiarized students with basic music concepts such as notes, tempo, symphony, beats, compositions, and chords.
• Coordinated field trips and department events, which involved meeting and interacting with professionals in the music field.
• Supported staff members in their daily tasks, reducing workload burden and allowing for focus on higher-priority assignments.

As a Violin Tutor, I worked with approximately 20 middle school students (individually and in pairs) who were eager to get some extra help with class music, feedback on their playing, and focused help that they couldn't get during class time. I worked with students after school for a few hours and always kept a good line of communication with the parents and the student's music teacher.
