Founder of NY WATER ROJECT

NEW YORK WATER PROJECT
Hoosick Falls, NY
10.2015 - Current
  • In 2015 I relocated my family to Hoosick Falls NY and shortly after moving in we discovered that our drinking water was contaminated with PFOA. With a sense of urgency and need for information, I developed the NY WATER PROJECT to bring people together to question local and state officials and to provide information to the public. We held meetings and rallies at the state capitol and reached out to keep the community informed and aware of any and all information and updates. During that time, we met with state and local leaders, as well as Erin Brockovich and Rob Bilott, on whom the movies Dark Waters and The Devil We Know were based. I also met with Judith Enck, who was the regional director for the EPA at that time. Judith became an excellent source of information and help, especially after she released a statement about the danger of the chemicals in our water a day after the NYSDOH reported that the drinking water was perfectly safe. I also met with and collaborated with others facing the same water quality issues in various locations around the world. During that time, I also organized the Water Angels, which was a group of volunteers who delivered thousands of gallons of water throughout the Hoosick Falls and Hoosick areas. We assisted those who didn't have transportation or access to the free gallons of water that was available at the local Tops supermarket. There are several news articles, as well as news interviews, I was involved in for both the NY WATER Project and the Water Angels. Life has not allowed me the time to dedicate the effort I would have had for these causes the last few years, but that passion and drive have not been stifled, and I'm always drawn back in.
  • Managed day-to-day activities across multiple departments within the organization.
  • Organized events such as webinars, conferences, trade shows or other promotional activities.
  • Facilitated communication between various departments by providing resources or guidance.
  • Maintained up-to-date knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, best practices and industry developments.
  • Conferred with staff, board members and officials to coordinate activities, resolve problems and discuss issues.
  • Fostered a positive company culture that encourages teamwork, innovation, and excellence.

Founder and Organizer for the Water Angels

Water Angels
Hoosick Falls, NY
11.2015 - 03.2016
  • Recruited, hired and trained staff members to ensure that operational goals were met.
  • Identified potential partnerships to expand the reach of the business.
  • Managed day-to-day activities across multiple departments within the organization.
  • In 2015, during the Hoosick Falls water contamination crisis, I organized a volunteer water delivery service to those with transportation or medical issues who were unable to pick up the free gallons of water available at the local Tops supermarket. I scheduled an initial meeting with locals to share my plans and collect suggestions, and offers of help. We advertised and got the word out, and eventually had an extensive list. We worked out the details with the local mayor, as well as the supermarket. I then collected contact information for those in need, set up scheduling, and recruited volunteers. We also assisted with handing out pamphlets, any important updates, and any scheduled public meetings. We also assisted with transportation to meetings, health department screenings, and blood testing for PFOA. Soon after, we also learned that some residents were also dealing with VOCs from a former Honeywell manufacturer.
