I am a committed athletic coach with 15 plus years of developing youth to become better football players, while also building the more important issue of character. I've coached both boys and girls in multiple sports and know the age group very well.
There are no championship trophies given at the Junior Varsity level. The JV level is for developing players to excel at the Varsity level. One thing I have learned in my many years of coaching is that a weak player at the JV level can often times become the star at the Varsity level. That's one reason why I coach EVERYONE!!!
My coaching style is based on positive feedback and encouragement, and understanding that failure/mistakes are things to analyze in order to improve. I ask kids questions to make them think rather than just tell them how to improve. I use the mantra of "get 1% better every practice".
I also understand that it's the Varsity Coach's program. My role as Junior Varsity Head Coach is to help implement THEIR program/vision. I may suggest things, but in the end it's their call. It needs to be one big integrated program with all coaches on the same page.
I played both Junior football and High School football growing up in Pleasanton. I was an All-League Running Back as a Sophomore, 2nd team All-League Wide Receiver as a Junior, and first team All-League Safety as a Senior. I only mention this to show my wide range of football position knowledge. I played one year of Junior College football, and then 10 plus years of playing and coaching an adult flag football team. This is my 5th year coaching Flag Football for the Davis Jr. Blue Devils.
I have coached both my sons in Junior Football in Davis, been the Coach Commissioner for the Jr. Blue Devils, and re-instituted the Boys rugby program at Davis High School in 2012.
I have attended a multitude of football clinics (Glazier, All-Sports, USA, etc.) over the past 10-20 years to increase my knowledge of coaching football.
I am currently retired from employment as a Management Analyst with the City of Davis, Public Works Department. I visit Dixon often as my mom is now residing in Solano Life House.
