Supervisor (Area Lockmaster) of locks and fixed crest dams on the Green River. My overall responsibility for the operation, maintenance, and repair of the locks, dams and related facilities at the projects. High emphasis is placed on maintaining and operating the facilities in the most efficient and timely manner to provide constant service to the commercial towing industry which in turn has a significant impact on the economy of the region. I participates in long term repair and maintenance planning for the projects by developing and prioritizing activities needed to insure continued effective operations of the locks and dams. I also participates in meetings with Section/Branch/Division Chief and staff engineers to provide input into the development of annual programs and budgets. Administratively, I have Maintained or provided for the maintenance of production reports and records. Scheduled and approved leave of subordinates. Sets performance requirements and makes formal and informal performance appraisals. Counsels employees on problems; adjusts informal complaints through discussion with employee. I'm responsible for the safety of property, personnel, and the public at the facilities. I manage 2 equipments mechanics, 6 operators, 2 relief operators and 1 navigation assistant.
Exercised as primary authority over the use of lock through issuance of instructions to tow boat captains and other craft operators, the setting of precedence of entry, and maintaining proper procedural operation. Handled bow or stern lines, walks lines to proper locations along wall and snubs lines to assist pilot in maneuvering craft into position. Operated electrical, electronic, and/or hydraulic gate controls to open and/or close gates. Observed weather conditions, condition of craft desiring entry, etc. to determine propriety of entry from safety standpoint.
