Construction Foreman, Former Manufactured Gas Plant (MGP) Soil Excavation, San Francisco, CA

Construction Foreman for soil excavation project in residential downtown neighborhood to remove contaminated soil in backyard of three adjoining properties. Excavated perimeter of the three-lot plot to 5’ below grade and backfilled with CDF to create a stem wall to secure soil of adjacent properties. Installed 2’ tall temporary retaining wall on-top of CDF backfill to ensure soil stabilization of adjacent properties during excavation activities. Excavated interior area of stem wall to remove soil to 5’ below grade. Installed combination of geo-membrane, geo-fabric, and drain rock in bottom 2’ of excavated area before backfilling with clean soil.

Coordinated with consultant to ensure City regulations were followed and address any concerns and issues presented by residents. Ensured proper protocol was followed and any questions/concerns presented by residents were directed to the client’s representative directly.

Field Supervisor, Exploratory Trenching to Locate Fault Line, San Leandro, CA

Field Supervisor for the excavation activities to determine the build ability of two separate locations for a future development project. Responsible for communicating daily activities with project manager and client to ensure project goals and milestones were being met. Coordinated with sub-contractors and vendors to ensure proper delivery and pick-up schedule. Coordinated trucking for material delivery and off-haul of unused backfill material. Inspected trucks prior to leaving site to ensure material tracking from truck would not occur.

Phase I - Excavated approximately 1,100 lnft of trench that consisted of a 15’ wide x 5’ deep trench with a 4’ wide x 14’ deep slot trench down the middle. The slot trench was shored with aluminum hydraulic shores, per OSHA regulations, to allow the inspection and logging of the soil. Upon completion of the soil inspection the shores were pulled, and the trench was backfilled to grade with native soil.

Phase II - Installed approximately 1,000 lnft of temp fence around the perimeter of the site to ensure limited site access during construction activities. Installed BMPs to protect storm drain system and ensure proper erosion control during excavation activities. Excavated approximately 700 lnft. of 4’ wide x 19’ deep trench through existing parking lot and landscape area to allow for inspection and logging of soil. Installed aluminum hydraulic shores to meet OSHA requirements and ensure proper trench wall stability during investigation process. Removed shores upon completion of soil investigation and backfilled/compacted native soil. Resurfaced area to match existing surrounding surfaces.

Phase III - Installed approximately 800 lnft of temp fence around the perimeter of the site to ensure limited site access during construction activities. Installed BMPs to protect storm drain system and ensure proper erosion control during excavation activities. Excavated approximately 500 lnft. of 4’ wide x 19’ deep trench through existing parking lot and landscape area to allow for inspection and logging of soil. Performed benching of trench walls and/or installed aluminum hydraulic shores to meet OSHA requirements and ensure proper trench wall stability during investigation process. Removed shores upon completion of soil investigation and backfilled/compacted native soil. Resurfaced area to match existing surrounding surfaces.

Field Supervisor, Sub-Slab Depressurization (SSD) Pilot System and Permanent System Install, Mountain View, CA

Field Supervisor for the installation and implementation of an SSD pilot and permanent system to mitigate any potential subsurface vapors for entering occupied building. Worked directly with on-site consultant representative to supervise daily activity, produce daily progress reports, address change order items, and address any issues the property owner or tenants presented.

Pilot System - Oversaw installation of three extraction and three monitoring points in commercial building footing for feasibility test for large scale SSD system.

A Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) survey was performed on the face of the building footing to ensure that core holes would not cut through rebar/supports in concrete footing. A 1.5x larger diameter hole than the conveyance piping to be installed was cored through the face of the footing and extended approximately 4’-6.5’ below building. Material samples were taken to verify that the core was completed and terminated in the gravel sub-surface level below the buildings concrete pad. PVC conveyance lines were installed in the core and two Link-seals with non-shrink grout were installed to create an airtight seal between the building sub-surface and the outside environment. Steel well boxes were set in concrete at the buildings edge where the conveyance piping exited the building footing to allow for monitoring and extraction purposes.

Permanent System – Oversaw (GPR) survey on the face of the building footing to ensure that core holes would not cut through rebar/supports in concrete footing. Installed 18 extraction points and 24 monitoring points in four different buildings located on site that extended through the building’s footings and into the subsurface material approximately 6’. These locations were sealed with a link-seal and completed with a grout seal.

Performed approximately 2,500 lnft of 2’ wide x 2’ deep trench through parking lot and landscape areas to install sub-surface conveyance and electrical lines. Trenches were backfilled with CDF and resurfaced to match existing grade. Excavated, prepped, formed, and poured new concrete at nine locations for the system cabinet installation.

Coordinated with on-site consultant to ensure that all facility rules and protocols were followed at all times. Worked with consultant to mitigate any concerns/issues presented by property owner and their employees to ensure minimal disturbance of occupants.

Field Supervisor, Expansion of SVE System, Port of Oakland, Oakland, CA

Field Supervisor for installation of approximately 1,400lnft of subsurface piping for the connection of 22 new SVE wells to and existing SVE system at the Port of Oakland. Responsible for ensuring that all Port of Oakland safety and construction protocols were observed and followed. Ensured that material specifications were met, and all testing procedures were completed. Coordinated material delivery and sub-contractor entrance to the Port of Oakland, e.g., all notifications were made, and all documentation was submitted prior to arriving to the site. Coordinated with on-site consultant and Port authorities to ensure port activities were not interrupted while construction activities were being completed.

Field Supervisor, Mercury Contaminated Soil Removal, Shasta Lake, CA

Filed Supervisor for the removal of mercury contaminated soil at the Shasta Sub-station. Removed soil from five locations at the site and prepared soil for transport and disposal at an approved facility.
