Work History
Counselor & Maintenance Director
Iron County Youth Camp
Crystal Falls, Michigan
06.2017 - 07.2025
Every summer during school, I would relocate to work at a youth camp, where I would be given a group of 10-12 kids aged 9-16 from Sunday afternoon to Saturday morning. The week would involve my needing to plan and organize every minute of every day to ensure a successful week at the youth camp. Then after all the planning on Sunday night, it is then my responsibility to lead them through the planned week as closely to the schedule as possible and be able to adjust on the fly for any unforeseen circumstances, such as weather, injury, maintenance problems, etc. It was also my responsibility to be aware and treat any medical emergencies, or give medicine at the proper times if needed.
The last summer I worked there, I was brought back as a maintenance director. Part of that responsibility was organizing work for the entire staff to open and close the camp for the season. This helped build leadership and job coordination. Throughout the season, I had my own crew that worked under me, where I would assign jobs daily to keep the campgrounds clean and maintained. Another part of the job is driving box trucks similarly sized to FedEx and UPS trucks. Most days of the week, we would use these vehicles to transport the youth campers to camping sites around the Upper Peninsula. Sometimes with canoe and kayak trailers. This has gotten me comfortable with driving bigger trucks similar to my previous job as a chauffeur driver.
Some other responsibilities include:
Enforce the rules and regulations of recreational facilities to maintain discipline, and ensure safety.
Organize, lead, and promote interest in recreational activities, such as arts, crafts, sports, games, camping, and hobbies.

Explain principles, techniques, and safety procedures to participants in recreational activities and demonstrate use of materials and equipment.
Administer first aid according to prescribed procedures and notify emergency medical personnel when necessary.
Manage the daily operations of recreational facilities.
Assess the needs and interests of individuals and groups and plan activities accordingly, given the available equipment or facilities.
