Relevant Experience

  • Project: Full Calf Liver DNA Extraction (BSC 2010L)

Extracted DNA from calf liver tissue using homogenization, cell lysis, and precipitation techniques. Skills applied included centrifugation for DNA separation and purification.

  • Project: Enzyme Catalysis (BSC 2010L)

Conducted enzyme assays to study enzyme activity, measuring reaction rates and analyzing the effects of temperature and pH on enzyme function.

  • Project: DNA Isolation and PCR (BSC 2010L)

Isolated DNA from samples and performed PCR to amplify specific DNA regions. Analyzed PCR products using gel electrophoresis.

  • Research Project: Regenerative abilities of planaria in different pH environments (BSC 2011L)

In a team, cut regenerative tails of planaria and placed into separate containers, one with low and one with high pH solution. Analyzed the growth of the planaria over 2 week period. Used inferential and descriptive statistics, accompanied with separate research, to draw conclusions. Wrote paper detailing our findings.

  • Research Project: Oppositional Preference of Bean Beetles (BSC 2011L)

In a team, placed beetles in the center of a dual-chambered tube, each tube housing a separate bean type, for 3 weeks. Analyzed amount of beans per type with eggs laid on them. Used inferential and descriptive statistics, accompanied with separate research, to draw conclusions. Wrote paper detailing our findings.

  • Capstone Project: Analyzing the effects of stress on the central nervous system (IDS 1350)

Individually, conducted a meta analysis using mostly primary sources from credible databases on the physical and mental effects of stress on the human body, and how these effects can culminate to effect separate levels of community on the periphery. Wrote an extensive paper detailing my research and defended my research in front of a live audience.
